  • Thanks Kerrywoman, the Hearty Lives doesn't seem to be offered in my area. I have had a look around the internet and my local council offers a few weight loss things I will try in Jan.

allie23 - Sorry to hear that. There is a thread on the old style board and check out the NHS Choices 12 week weight loss plan. Wishing you all the best for that for the new year.

  • morning all,

having a scout around the house today, especially in our boys bedrooms ( now 19 and 20) to see what old toys I can quickly list on the bay.. now that I have got used to my iPhone I had last feb, I find it easy and quicker to list certain things on the bay using my phone...

i know an iPhone wasn't being frugal, but i think if i can get it to work for me, with certain apps etc and listing stuff then it will earn its keep/monthly cost etc

think deep down i an getting very twitchy about next year financially, for us and the country as a whole...

  • Busy day today but its been lovely. I decided to head out for a walk around the town delivering Christmas cards. Neighbours and relatives living close by all done, I was invited in for a chat at one of my relatives and it was lovely to catch up.

Then went down to my sisters to drop off cards and took my 6yo niece with me to deliver the rest of the cards and go food shopping (she was 'bored' as her Mum was working and Dad was hung-over after works doo last night). We went up to my mums to deliver cards to granny and we got HM bread and cheese plus a game of junior scrabble.

We finished off the card deliveries and then came back to mine to get the shopping list organised and wake up my OH who has been on night shift. Shopping all done in Lidl and a bag of Haribo for Emma for helping.

    Morning all,

Our London trip cost more than planned - it didn't help that we missed our train and had to buy more tickets, ouch! The credit card took a real hammering :( Planning on paying it in full when the statement comes so I've begrudgingly taken my overtime as pay instead of time in lieu this month.

I've done well with my grocery shopping this month, kept well within budget and have bought a few bits for Christmas too. Spent a bit more than planned on pressies though, tut tut!

The spending diary definitely helped, though it went right out of the window in London. Will, start it again on Friday (payday) I've no money left to spend until then anyway ;)

I know what you mean, can be really helpful..now all we need is a MSE / MSE Forum app!

I had my OH in stitches over the weekend....

I've got a bottle of very expensive (to me) perfume which I've had for a couple of years - only bringing it out 'for best'. That means when I go out, but as that's only once or twice a year I've finally managed to make my brain realise that (regardless of how well I store it) it's likely to evaporate and/or go off before I use it all. So I 've decided it'll get used every weekend (when OH comes over).

I have some shower gel which doesn't clash too badly with it - but also have the perfume to go with that, don't have enough for it's own perfume, and can't get any more as it was discontinued more than a few years ago.

A check of the B00ts site turned up a shower gel to go with my very expensive perfume - but I recoiled at £35 for 200ml  Then I realised I have just over £45 worth of Advantage points, so in theory it'd be free - especially as I can't use the points in the Opticians, which is the only department of the store that is likely to see any of my money for the forseeable future (a lot of the points are from there, with the rest accumulated when there's been a really good discount/multi-buy offer running on something I like at the same time as extra points for a certain spend).

But I still can't bring myself to spend that many points when I can get what appears to be 500ml of an unscented shower gel from Mr T for under £2.

OH was highly amused that I'm finding it soooo hard to convince my brain that it's not real money I'd be spending - though he did admit he'd never dream of parting with so much real money for any kind of shower gel :D

  • Have to say CW........I know exactly where you are coming from. That really is a huge amount of money for a shower gel and free with points or not....I dont think I could justify it.
    Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £60

I managed to go to two places where I wanted to go today, as they were kind of close together. Did not buy anything in the Museum of London shop and went to The Monument - a lot of steps and I am not good with heights but managed it and got a certificate when I left. Did not ask anyone to take a picture of me up there as I wanted to get down quickly, was something I wanted to achieve.

Managed to do a little bit of decluttering yesterday. Also managed to finally put up all the Christmas decorations yesterday and made an apple crumble. Got a couple of hours work tomorrow.

  • I got a lovely free calendar through the post today. It is from a holiday company that I used to book a cottage through a couple of years ago. They sent the first one out last year and I liked a couple of the pics so much I had them framed and they now hang in my living room so I have really been looking forward to getting this years.
