Sounds like your OH did the right thing. He couldn't get full enjoyment from it for fear of it getting damaged so you might as well sell it and use the money to ease your situation. Why not take a nice photo of it, maybe with you dressed up in costume of the period next to it, and put it on display in a lovely frame? Then one day, when things are easier, he might do another restoration job.

Thank you thats a nice idea x

Have looked at goodbudget (thanks lHEAD123) but need to be able to shuffle income dates- jury out on this one....will try YNAB next......

On YNAB for instance I have my salary entered in for the 25th February and I can change whether that salary counts towards February or Marchs income. Obviously it would go to March! I do the same with OH's but have to look at each one individually as it depends where it falls in the month

To be honest last night trying to use good budget to do what I wanted it to and finding that it wouldn't, I have given up and designed myself a new spreadsheet in excel!

Put my first food seeds in today....butternut squash, broad beans, tomatoes and potatoes :j As we eat loads of these, this should certainly help towards food costs over the summer!! I have salad leaves, rhubarb and globe artichokes to transplant over the next couple of days and I still have beetroot, French beans, rainbow chard, runner beans and courgettes to plant in a month or so....there really is nothing nicer than deciding on dinner based upon what is ready in the garden!! :D Also had a gift of some poultry shears and a couple of chickens to practice on which will help too!

I have been using the new washing line for a couple of weeks now so need to check my electricity use against last years on my next statement to see what difference it is making....hopefully, it should be reasonably significant as the td is normally on about five times a day!!

I ask this because I am ignorant....is it right to plant seeds now? What if it snows.

I don't know when to plant mine!

  • I've not planted mine yet but I have hundreds to do so I want warm nights, we've been too frosty here and I can't afford to lose them!
And today we DID NOT go into asda yay! So my budget stayed true. Then when we took DS to the dentist we went in the butchers. Oh dear! A whole fiver on meat :D JOY:D
I could have happily blown most of this months shopping budget that was in my purse for putting in baggies, on meat! But I didn't!
But I did buy some grate black from the old fashioned ironmongers while we were there. Treat the logburner! (Ds laughed as that was what I classed as MY treat!)
Hope everyones enjoying the sun x

  • I tried to dry my washing on the line on Sunday without much success. I was full of hope when I put the washing out as it was sunny but it soon clouded over.

I really need to refocus my thoughts on spending less. Spending like its going out of fashion just now. So I am aiming to list some frugal actions each day. Tomorrow:
    1. I am aiming for a NSD

    2. Take lunch to work

    3. Get down early to canteen for dinner (we have a parents night and the school provides a snack meal for us since we won't get home until around 8pm. At the last parents night I went down to the canteen after doing a little tidying up of my classroom and there was no meals left so not making that mistake again!! I will be first in the queue.)

    4. Reset the heating to come on for less time again.

Now, completely less frugally I am away this weekend on a spa weekend. I can't wait to go and am really looking forward to it.

Not a very frugal day for us today...

Had to get a replacement tax disk for OH's van as the other one fell down behimd the dashboard! So that was £7.

Then as I've been on at OH for a while to check the tyre pressures on the car we went and bought a pump and found that each tyre was at least 5psi down!
So hopefully the car will be a bit more economical now thats sorted.

Quick stop for bread and pull ups and finally home!

DD was (and still is even after bed time) being a pain and misbehaving so I ended up ruining 2 lots of pasta sauce while telling her off and had a completely unsatisfactory pasta with ketchup and a bit of cheese for dinner :(

On the plus side after a chat with the man at halfords we found out that dd can go in a car seat with just a regular seatbelt soon rather than one with a harness like we thought, so that will save us about £40 next month or the month after when she finally outgrows her current one. :T

Tomorrow dd is at nursery all day and I've got to tackle the bombsite of a kitchen as well as do some of my coursework.

Time to go deal with a whingey toddler again, its already been a fly and tummy hurting, I wonder what will be next....wish me luck!:o
