I gave up on normal online grocery deliveries as either the substitutions were ridiculous (jar of jam instead of jelly to make with water) (christmas crackers - expensive ones instead of cream crackers), or the items that were supposedly out of stock were in fact on the shelf of the store that delivered only an hour later as I had to go out to get something to replace.
This was Mr T before they didn't charge extra for substitutions.
I have also had a non- delivery from them due to card not being accepted, but said card worked in the store a few hours later, with me not having done anything. My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).

only need bread today...
going to venture outside in the garden soon, now that the rain has stopped... need to assess and start getting the greenhouse cleaned and ready for next month, to start sowing...
I know its cheeky, but I am going to see if I can get a free greenhouse heater on freegle and facebook.. if not, might try the candle and the flowerpot heater in there...and see what happensWork to live= not live to work0 -
Then make it.COOLTRIKERCHICK wrote: »only need bread today...
I am going to make some bread for tomorrow, and will be cleaning up my kitchen. I made a big chilli which should cover me for a couple of weeks meals, so will need to clean up today in preparation for tomorrows freezing of tomorrows chilli.
No risk of a spend today. Though might start adding items to my online shopping list. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
Frugalsod, at the moment my kids don't like my bread....but we are s.l.o.w.l.y getting there....
BUT it shouldn't be an excuse I know... I MUST TRY HARDER!!
Made a pork dinner yesterday, having the same again today...Work to live= not live to work0 -
Profitable day - did a table top sale there was only 5 of us turned up, made £20 and got 2 people collecting a camera and photo frame from facebook sellers - so should be another £8 in the pot.
Sendind daddy darling (thats the I want something!!) - DD has a clarinet that she doesn't play and we've been told theres a shop in our town that sells music items for you and takes 10% - so asked him nicely if he will take it when he goes into town and also take a set back to Boots (no aftershave in the set). If I go into town - hates it always go shopping - so being frugal xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
I attempted to live frugally once, I ended up going the opposite way entirely and filling my house up with food from Approved Food.
I really have no need to buy anything apart from milk, eggs and vegetables as I've spent 3 hours doing a stock take. I genuinely could feed us for 3 months. I mean I have 10kg of porridge oats!!
So I am determined to crack the debtcardleak on the head. I don't know why I buy more food, OH thinks I panic that we will run out of food, bit like an emotional crutch.
I have a lot of bread flour so really should get back to baking our own bread with my pullman loaf tin. The problem I have is that I can't slice it thin enough for sandwiches so it ends up going to waste. Does anyone have one of those rotary slicer things where you choose a thickness and then just slice away? I am considering buying one if I can find one on ebay in the hope that I'd save the money back just by using all the flour up that I have left. I also have a shed load of out of date wholemeal self raising flour that I must use it somehow. I have a cooked butternut squash in the fridge so am thinking I'll make some butternut squash cakes later.
I recently bought a few Philips Led light bulbs from Lidl ,they were £7 and the closest on amazon was £27 so I am trying my hardest to not waste energy needlessly. However I've then had a think, I must consume a lot of energy we have a 50inch television, 2 x xboxs etc etc etc. The standby alone must be a big source of drainage. However we can't actually reach a lot of our plugs to turn them off when not in use as they are in awkward places.
I really want to be frugal I just don't know where to start.Money money money.

I do this. I like having a decent stockpile of food in. I'm trying to reduce my reliance on always having enough food to feed an army but if I see a real bargain AND can afford it I do stock up.0 -

I know the feeling, I tried the challenge a few years ago and drove myself nuts! and I also have the plug issue
One thing to suggest re self raising flour- could you use some of it to make Salt dough and make stuff with the kids? if they aren't too old?
I am starting fairly small, using up what is in the freezer and cupboards, trying to bake once a week if I haven't got cakes already! Can't make bread
don't eat it enough.
Am trying to turn the lights off upstairs if I am downstairs and use a blanket on the sofa rather than putting the heating up.
keep reading, you pick up all sorts of tips
