    Well, since you were never going to get an install on Christmas Day itself, it was always either going to either be an early surprise (with an install at the latest on Christmas Eve), or a post-Christmas install, and nothing to physically show him on Christmas Day.
    Could you not have taken him out on 20/12, arranged the install, then hidden the box until Christmas Day? Unless he noticed the dish, that would have worked fine.
    No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
