Well, all going reasonably well so far. Got paid today and have done budget for next month. It's going to be (very) tight, but that's about par for the course at the moment, with over a third of our income going on servicing our debts.

This has of course been the issue over the last couple of years, in that I've always said, "Oh, it's only £20 for this top", or "Well, we already owe £37K, what's another £100"...thing is, they all add up and when you are living on a knife edge with your budget, that twenty quid makes the difference between keeping within your overdraft, or having to transfer another £100 from your almost maxxed out last credit card via Paypal to stop you bouncing direct debits. :o And I, to my shame, have transferred many a credit card balance via paypal to the current account.

So, no more. We don't have any spare money to buy things in the sales, can't afford to buy new clothes, can't afford anything that isn't food or fuel, basically, without taking the money from the food or fuel budgets. I think that I shall try and sell a few bits on Ebay to fund any essential purchases, for growing children and so on.

We are having a holiday, but that is paid for by a separate (very small) income every month, that I will not use for debt repayment, for very personal reasons. So it's not all doom and gloom and we at least have that to look forward to. :)

So, may not get back online much before Xmas, so hope everyone has a great one!

Have a great Christmas, you are doing really well. Our budget for January will also be tight, but hey ho, we got ourselves into this situation, so will get ourselves back out again! I'm also hoping to sell a few bits on ebay in the new year, although mine will be to increase our debt repayments. I want the CC cleared ASAP!

Well, hope everyone had a great Christmas. We had a lovely time, and have been pretty good money wise. Have bought a few bits with Christmas money, but not been to the sales!

Things are a bit (for that, read "a lot") tight at the moment. Hubby announced today that his car needs two new tyres, at £120, which isn't budgeted for at all as I had no idea they were practially illegal. This means we will be to the bone this month now, on an already very tight budget. On the (hopefully) upside, we have made the decision to get rid of his car. My car is a work one and only a year old, and servicing etc is included, and he works shifts around my work, so technically we could manage with one car. His will only bring about £1500, to £2K at a push, but we can clear the highest interest card with that, and it saves us on tax/insurance and servicing costs as well. We have to replace a wing mirror and get a new battery for the central locking keyring, so it's going to cost us about £150 to get it ready to sell including the tyres, but it will give us an additional £30 a month plus once it's gone, plus we'll lose the most expensive card.

  • Wing mirror ordered for £35, hopefully chap over the road will fit it for us (for free....with a bit of luck, retired mechanic, likes tinkering) tyres ordered for £90 fitted and found a battery for key. Will get that done, then hubby can clean it and I'll get it on Ebay by next weekend, hopefully. Although with the post over New Year, it might be the weekend after. Fingers crossed people will be looking out for cars!

Fingers and toes crossed for a nice, quick sale. That would be fab to clear a debt, and save all the car associated costs.

Hope you had a lovely Christmas :)

Good luck with the car sale. Even if it's difficult to share at first, it'll all be worth it.

Glad to hear that your christmas was good. Mine was great too!

Regarding the sales: I went today and they are almost totally uninspiring. A load of fuss about nothing if you ask me.
