I bet they will drop the Scruffy when her fur grows back! to me she is Miss Kitty. and Kitty is a lovely name for her!0

I agree, but i am sure the cat doesn't give a hoot what she is called!!. so long as she never goes back to such a miserable existence.I bet she is still amazed at what life can really be like.
I only wish all stray and feral cats(and dogs) could be given a better life.0 -
Well it is not so good news.
Last week I took Kitty to the vet as I wasn't happy with her progress. I was beginning to think she was diabetic.
Blood test was done, (used some of the money £90).
She is not diabetic.
She has kidney problems, which the vet described as moderate, which will deteriorate in time. She also has a slightly enlarged liver.
She is unlikely to gain any further weight with these conditions.
She has a course of steroids to see if this improves the liver, and make her more comfortable, and I have bought special food for cats with kidney problems.
She will eat the food, but does not seem to enjoy it. It seems to be giving her dihorea, so only giving it once a day just now.
She seems to be happy and content. She still lives upstairs, coming down for her food and litter tray. Had a few accidents with her bowels on the bathroom mat, but easily washed, thank goodness. Could be worse!
So, we are still happy to keep her, she is part of the family now. She is content and safe, and not living outside in the cold and rain.
She is more tolerant of mum and daughter now, but they still aren't friends yet! Although my cats fancy using her litter tray.......not so good!
You may just want to share this info with Kitty's benefactors, but I leave that to you.
She has a comfortable home to see her days out, much better than under a car.
And we are happy to do this.
I take her into the garden daily, but she doesn't stay long.
Trying to integrate her but she seems content.
Comes downstairs and meows when she is hungry.... Doesn't let us forget her! Her coat is good and she is taking better care of herself.
My 21 year old cat died of kidney failure, so I reckon we will know when it is time. Hopefully a few years yet.
We still did the right thing by her, she is content, safe and cared for.
Maybe not so easy for her previous owners......
THIS IS MESSAGE FROM KITTY'S MUM0 -
petlover - I am so glad Kitty wasn't left to suffer out on the street. If the poor girl is sick then at least she has a loving, comfortable home, and vet attention.
Thank you so much for letting us 'Kitty fans' know. I KNOW you and gettingready did the right thing.
Although this news is not good - she is obviously a tough little kitty, and a fighter - so hopefully will have many happy years with her new humans.
If her previous owners knew of this illness then all the more shame on them! she should be cared for and pampered even more now!0 -
One of our cats had chronic kidney disease and hated the special diet. We talked it over with the vet and decided we wanted him to enjoy whatever time he had left so let him eat normal cat food. He lived several more years :j
Thankyou for the update and so pleased he is safe and warm0 -
Sorry it seems to be bad news from the vet.
As far as her kidneys go....I think it is expected that a cat past middle age will have some degree of kidney function impairment. It does not always mean that the condition will worsen dramatically.
If the (expensive!) renal food is giving her diarrhoea then I agree with Nicter, I would just feed her whatever she wants.

This article talks about raw feeding, but the principles can be applied to canned food too. I think the current thinking is to go for better quality protein rather than restricted protein. I certainly would not feed dry food to a cat with kidney issues.0 -
I wouldn't feed dry food either - unless she wont eat anything else. just give her what she prefers.0

Had an email from the lady who took the kitty in - kitty has died now.
She was unwell for w while and on injections but finally died.
So she had good few months being happy loved and looked after.
RIP kitty xxx0 -
Gosh I hadn't realised it was over a year since we all tried to help that poor little cat.Sad she has died but as you say she had a year of love and attention which ,had she stayed where she was would have probably have been only a matter of a few more miserable days or weeks, and died in pain.
I'm sure I speak for everyone in asking you to say a big big thanks to your friend for caring so much and loving that little cat.0 -
That's sad news gettingready. BUT, miss Kitty finally knew the love and affection and comfort of a GOOD home. Please pass on my condolences to your friend and if possible the adoptive family. Poor little girl!0
