7 o'clock is not that late for a cat to be out, I realise it is not practical for your friend to check later but it is very likely the cat could be taken in for the night.

Some cats do just prefer to be outside.

It does look matted however an elderly cat would have trouble keeping itself matt free and clean.

Kiki is going through a heavy moult at the moment and walking around covered in tufts of hair like that. I can brush her three times a day, and she still looks a mess. Don't know if cats do the same?

Thanks everyone.... Perhaps you are right - hope you are right :)

Cat may not look underweight with all those matts all over but I trust my friend saying it is very skinny.

But again - it may be age.. if it is as old as the woman said...

Getting ready i am inclined to agree with you, that cat looks skinny and dirty and a well fed, happy cat would groom itself and look cleaner. That is the look of a cat that spends most of,if not all,it's life outside.

At 19,if it is,then it needs MORE care not very little as the owner seems to be giving it.If she truly cared she would have brought it indoors so there wasn't the risk of someone taking it .I know i would!

Had a thought. Is there anyone who rescues cats in the area that would go to the bus stop and take a proper good look at this cat and give their more expert opinion.Plus maybe some food. This might then entice the so called owner to come out and perhaps challenge them. Questions could then be asked to find out just whether this owner is doing the right thing.

I know it's a tall order and probably quite unlikely to happen but just mulling over ideas..........

I hate to think of animals suffering with winter just around the corner.

Froglet - that is why I pust the post code in the post, hoping some cat person may live nearby and have a look... I am way too far, no car :(

I actually thought of the Celia Hammond Trust but i don't think it is near.I don't know, which area are you actually talking about?

Poor cat, having to rely on the care from other people rather than the owner. So many seem to think cats are free spirits and can look after themselves.Makes me so angry.

TW comes under Surrey I think, past Hounslow.

    I am in East London.

My friend will be keeping an eye on the cat - she got few tins of food today thinking the cat is a stray, fed the cat twice today, once with the owner there not saying a word about feeding, weird...if someone was feeding my cat... would have said something.

Exactly.Maybe the woman doesn't own it at all and is just a bit of a fruit loop!

Very difficult situation,it would certainly be easier if it was a stray but if it was it wouldn't stay in the same place all the time.Of course it will now as it knows it will be fed.Good on your friend, bless her for caring.but with winter coming something will need to be done,it can't survive outside all the time in a poor condition.

I'm sure you will think of something.

Just looked it up,it is in Staines.

My second cat didn't look malnourished - because his fur was matted as badly as this cats! but looking carefully at the pics - this cat looks in a sorry state to me.
oh and I actually stole him - when I felt how thin he was under what appeared to be a completely matted coat.

That poor cat looks in a dreadful state to me - he needs vet attention. Try the RSPCA - but, don't hold your breath! I think they are useless - but you may be lucky and they will take action.

If I lived nearer I would certainly go pick him up and take him to nearest vets - but, I cant as have no transport of my own.
Those pics really upset me - poor poor cat!
