same cat at 7pm, in the same place
I am seriously asking as I never had a cat over 10 yo - is this possible this is a normal look/behaviour for a 19 yo pet cat?
Fur is completely matted, according to my friend (dog not cat person - she has no experience of having a cat) looks like it needs to be shaved off in places, dirty and just had most of another tin of food so must be hungry. Still outside since early this morning - in the dark, between the house where the "owner" lives and bus stop.
The cat was under the van when my friend got there but came out when she called.

I would say if the owner didn't care about it, they wouldn't have come out of the house to see why someone was feeding it.
Was not quite like that. The woman came out of the house and it was my friend who spotted her and asked if she knew the cat - the woman was not looking out for the cat.0 -
I've never had a 19 year old cat, but I have had a 16 year old dog, and perhaps somebody like you thought we were neglecting her, because she was skinny and toothless and her fur was patchy but she was loved and cared for until the day she died.
Please GR, are you sure this isn't more about your desire to be a 'rescuer' than it is about this cat? Its an elderly cat with an owner, just let them be!0 -
If she/you're concerned about it's welfare, you know the lady's address to report her to the RSPCA. They can then attend and judge for themselves.0

I have no idea - I just love to think my ones will live to that age and no way they would be out near a busy road or sleeping under a van all day
That is why I am asking, as I have no idea... just feel sorry for the poor thing.
The owner saw my friend feeding the cat and never said anything about it.
My friend said there is no way this cat is 19... but then again - how can we know?
And the owner is not elderly, mid age woman...
Scratching head....0 -

The cat may have spent its whole life pottering around that bit of road and hate being kept in.0 -
May be - but why so matted/dirty0

Loads of reasons, a few of which people have already pointed out on this thread.
It doesn't look underweight.
Please ask yourself why you are so determined to see this cat as an animal that needs rescuing?0
