  • Up and until the point of seeing the pictures of the cat indoors and hearing that it has made no attempt to get out, I might have agreed with you on this. Can you really say from the pictures (and there are lots so not just one that could easily be misinterpreted) that this looks like a cat that does not want to be indoors?
I never said that it was, but if I was certain of that fact as an owner, why would I do anything else? What if the cat doesn't like being in that house, but does like it's new accommodation?
And similarly we have kids being reported killed as Social Services took ages to respond and nobody else reacted in time because they to belonged to someone.. parents.
I'm not defending the system, but taking the cat and rehoming it is not the only option available, and your friend feeding it is definitely an intervention, not a case of 'nobody reacting in time'.

I defend the RSPCA to a lot of people who think they are useless.Without them this world would be a terrible place for animals.

But i do think saying no first off, then promising to investigate within 28 days is just not good enough ,and so it is no wonder someone has tried to save the cat from suffering any longer than is necessary. For all we know that poor cat could have been dead by the time the RSPCA saw fit to call round.Yes i know they are busy but i thought they were there to protect animals from cruelty and neglect.
It's not ideal, but they did promise to look in after being pestered and that was a mere 3 days ago that they promised, and two days later the cat was taken anyway, so how do you know how swiftly they would have reacted? And if they did take too long, the option to take the cat would have still been there. This whole thread was started 5 days ago, and in a mere 5 days and after few interactions with the RSPCA and the owners, has gotten to the point of the cat being rehomed and the owners have been judged to be beyond redemption. All in 5 days.

If......and I think a HUGE IF, the supposed carers/owners of this cat miss it at all and put up a missing poster i'm sure Ewa will be contacting them. Plus they have spoken to Ewa, so if they see her as she goes past their place ( i'm assuming pretty regularly to have seen puss in first place ), then the 'owner/carer' of her can i'm sure speak to Ewa and demand she return her, call the police etc.

I'm fairly confident that they probably have not even noticed her missing...or give a shoite even if they have.

It would be really easy to find out anyhow, Ewa would just need to ask them if they'd seen the '"little old cat I was feeding"...and see how they respond. What's the bet it wouldn't be a case of......"oh my god we are distraught, put posters up, tramped the streets for hours looking for her, my wife hasn't stopped crying and is devastated "..type of answer.

They weren't bothered at someone feeding her normal food for a cat that is meant to be on special diet.

Bet that special diet is called...catch it yourself.

So....based on that it's great a new owner has been found if needs be.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.
  • First time I saw this cat over month ago.
She came to me and I stroke her and then I get to the bus.
Couple weeks later I waited for the bus with my daughter and the cat came again. That was on sunday.
And on Monday I spoke to gettigready and told her about the cat.
I fed her every day from Monday to Saturday.
On Tuesday I spoke to her owner first time.
I ask if she knows that cat and she confirmed. I told her I fed her cat because I was sure that cat is stray.
I ask why the cat looks that bad and she said because she is old and she missing to her brother.
She didn't say anything about special diet. She didn't say anything about the feeding.
Next day or day later I knocked to their door and ask again about condition of their cat. Man told me different story about this cat and he said about the special diet.
He said some people fed the cat, he said she looks that bad because she spent most of time under the van. And she lives all her life outdoor. She don't like be indoor. But from last night she is not interested to go outside. She eat a lot, drink water and sleep. She eat more than my small dog.
I reported to RSPCA this situation and I take the cat tomorrow to RSPCA clinic. If they say I'm wrong and I have to give the cat back to the owner I do this

I think its a fabulous thing the Op and her friend are doing, so many people dont care enough about cats. I have 4 who were unwanted. My mum has spent 40 years rescuing cats, some who must have smelled the scent of her cats and turned up in her garden starving.

As I said before, if this cat has an owner, the owner isnt doing a good job of taking care of this old, sick, matted looking cat.

Ewa - I know you and Gettingready are acting with the best of intentions. I also believe that if the vet said its an old cat and it needs a special diet and that is why it looks so bad then you would consider giving it back.
I just don't believe a caring owner would act like these people - but, we shall see what happens in next few days wont we?

and don't be upset at some of the posts on here - some people are just here to cause trouble - they have no compassion themselves and do not understand how people can be moved by pity and a desire to help a defenceless creature!
Make no mistake - I think you and gettingready have done the right thing - and nothing that has been done cant be undone!

This is why the cat spends it time outside at home but is happy in another home. It is exactly the same situation as a cat down my street - it will not go into its own home it had a sibling that died and since then will not go inside its house (I guess to due memories/smells for it which it finds upsetting), it is fed outside. Happily for that cat it goes into lots of houses down the street (it was curled up on my sofa earlier) so its not left out in the cold, its owners are aware of this and are happy for it to do so.

I also know of someone who contacted the cats protection over the same situation and their advise was it is best to re-home the cat in these situations, they were heart broken but done what was best for their pet.

oh that's sad mumtoone! but, at least that cat is not living in a bus shelter or under cars! it has concerned and kind neighbours to go to.

Yes it is a lovely cat, I think it must be the most pampered cat ever the amount of houses it visits. The owners asked that I don't feed it (I presumed they asked everyone else as well) , which is fair enough as they provide its food and they are concerned that it will get too fat! Its owners are responsible people and I am sure if it looked like the cat in this thread they would do the right thing and re-home it, they just don't need to as it has nearly a whole street as its home :)

It sounds like the owners are concerned enough to go round and tell people the situation - and are still looking after it to the best of their ability and as much as the cat is letting them! quite unlike the cat in question IMHO.
