To be honest so much good advice has beeen given over several weeks and nothing has changed, have you actually passed any of it on to your friend?
He is obviously an intelligent guy so why is'nt he getting off his backside and making things happen? if he was my son he would of had a rocket up the afore mentioned backside by now, you need to tell him nothings going to come knocking on his door he needs to be proactive.

Why the judgemental, Superior tone? Why are you telling the Bloke off? Seems to me he asked a perfectly reasonable question.

    Why single Seven-day-weekend out?

They are not being 'judegmental' or 'superior'.

We are all saying the same thing in the same 'tone' not a 'superior tone' just all trying to help..some including my own posts are far stronger in sentiment than the poster you have singled out.

There is no magic answer to this one, just practical advice which has been given many times within this and a previous post.

Because it was the first one I read and I happened to agree with the OP, who also thought he was being judged. I have just read the whole thread and yes you are right most of the reply's are of the "Tell him to get off his A-se and get a Job!" variety..Despite the OP making clear his Friends Geographical difficulties.

Im sure other people in his remote area have overcome the problems or maybe none of them work? who knows!...we are telling him he needs to get off his backside and make thigs happen...sitting in his remote village/town moaning about the lack of internet/transport/jobs is not going to conjour up a job.

He is an intelligent person but his seemingly lack of get up and go is blaringly obvious. I think it's a shame and a waste that a 26year old guy who has gone through uni and qualified as an engineer is sat in the back of beyond with 2 parents who don't seem to want him there...or are maybe more frustrated than we are....that rocket really needs to be lit.

The op who lives in the City has offered him a roof over his head so he can comply with the JSA conditions while being able to access the internet and follow other routes to gaining employment, but he does'nt want that either.

Yeah I guess..I'm just not sure that the 'Norman tebbit' type responses are helpful, in that they might frighten the OP away.

But yes, I do see what you are saying.

Having read through this thread again, I find few responses that can be described as judgemental in the way you describe. They are not the majority.

Instead of criticising the responses of others, why not put forward what you think would be a reasonable solution for the OP's friend?

Ultimately, he is being paid JSA to look (and find) work. Yes he lives in a very rural and isolated area, but such excuses only go so far.

Some reasonable suggestions have been made, but the OP has dismissed many of them. For example, my suggestion that hespeak with his advsier, ask if he can travel to the jobcentre twice a week, and see if he can get travel costs re-imbursed, has been dismissed as "inefficient".

The Jobcentre are already being very reasonable with the OP's friend, even given his remove living location.

Ultimately, the onus is on the OP to look for work. If his current situation makes things very difficult then he needs to take reasonable steps to change this.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
  • Lets not forget with the old thread linked, the OP's friend has Aspergers, was the advice at post no. 5 in that thread taken heed and followed? Time to get the complaints in if the Jobcentre are aware of this fact.!? There is a BIG difference when someone can't help themselves!

I live nearly 20 miles return trip from my nearest Jobcentre and it would cost over £6 each time in bus fair alone, which was the cheapest option - for those who can't believe one can't simply walk into their nearest Jobcentre

Whats the saying... Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be Kind.

Very simple solution. Get a letter off JC show to parents tell parents options are

    A) Internet which he will pay for and they can ban all games sites
    B) they support him

Sure it won't take much for them to be persuaded.

No one is being 'unkind' and i certainly don't mean anything i say to be unkind...as i have said there is no magic answer for this one just practical answers and advice.

i'm in total agreement with the friends Aspergers needs to be taken into account with regards to requested frequent visits to the JC, but seaching for jobs at home is'nt the answer either as he has no internet access...maybe this is why they have requested the op increases his appointments.

Basically he can't go the JC and can't use the internet..there does only seem to be once answer....move!
