Or is it up to the place I work for if Iget it or not?

I invoice at basic £6.31 rate at the moment but the thought of going in on NY day for this rate makes me want to weep :(

You are not legally entitled to anything extra for working bank holidays, self employed or not.

However, as you are self employed, can you not tell them that you will "invoice" them at £12.61 an hour, as it's new years day?
  • I'm a mother of three. I'll not be in paid work for the fortnight of school holiday, but I'll still be working, as will all the other parents!
  • im a youth worker and we were supposed to be working all week this week and next (managed to book next week off as A/L :j)
    then back jan 3rd

If you are SE then you can agree to work BH's but like lottie says, just tell them in advance that you double charge for this. If they want you in, they'll pay.
Or they will find someone else to do it instead. Is it with an agency?

We finish on the 20th of December and only return to work on 6 January. (Didn't have to take leave for it either).

Hoping to finish 20th through to the 6th. Phone on divert to home, so may get the odd call on the 23rd Dec and 2nd, 3rd of Jan, but maybe not:D. Apart from a few odd days, it'll be the first holiday of the year - woohoo!
