Isaac's been absolutely lovely - I threw up extensively with no warning to start with (fortunately, I was next to the sink) and he kept quiet until I finished, then produced tissues and silent pats on the back. Angel child!
Now he's trying to make me lie down on the sofa, and he's brought me a glass of water, mostly not spilled.
There is something lovely about being looked over by your kid(s).
I doubt it'll have the same appeal when we're 80.0 -
I'm prepared to give things a go even if it may not be optimal anyway!
I think most of the garden gets sun in the summer. I remember on one of my numerous visits here before it was mine (I think I had 5 or 6 visits in total - a couple of the agency staff live within 10 mins walk of here, and I that was the most hassle I gave them - none of the hold ups/ inconsistencies came from me!) that the EA sat pretty much behind the bin in the pic above (did I mention I also have about 8 outdoor chairs?) one sunny evening and was just about in the sun if I remember correctly.
In my experience, almost everything sold in your nearest garden center will grow in your garden. The only thing that really makes a huge difference is the hardy / tender thing. Chose hardy plants.
Have fun. If a plant dies, it doesn't really matter.
Other hints: before deciding what plants to buy, decide when you are going to be using your garden. Maybe you're going to be on holiday in the Summer, and you really want the boost in Spring / Autumn ? etc.
Also, sowing some annual seeds around perennial plants that won't grow large enough for a couple of years can be fun.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

Hopefully my mum won't hate me too. She has turned into a very avid reader in recent years. I have to devote at least an hour a week to explaining why it is wrong.
I give up explaining. Yesterday I was told that wifi is dangerous and we should get rid of the router, all devices that pick up wifi signals from neighbours, turn off mobiles most of the time and not use cordless phones. She was speaking from her cordless phone about a foot away from her router.I have signed the Generalissimos up to this:
http://spotthestation.nasa.gov/home.cfm
it sends you an email telling you when the Space Station is visible. Basically it has to be in the sun but it needs to be dark where you are.

I love 'em, but I can't grow them... because the slugs, rabbits, deer and associate flying and burrowing pests all love 'em too.
I'd have to set up Fort Knox like security precautions to actually grow the things.
But I can admire them from afar.
EDIT: Horse bedding contains a lot of hay or straw, which contains a lot of carbon, plus um... horse widdle... which contains enzymes that are superb for breaking down things. Combine those two things and you have the perfect stinky compost heap elixir.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

We have no bedding in most of our muck.
