Thanks guys.....and no, he still isn't receiving the full TA support he is supposed to be getting although the school quite blatently lied to the person running the CAF and said he was! It has improved a little but still not even half the hours he is supposed to receive. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Sue, that's dreadful.
I have to say, my experience with an organisation that simply didn't do what it was supposed to do (in my case a coroner's office rather than the SEN dept of a school, but all the same...) nothing happened and nothing happened and nothing happened, and my solicitor asked nicely many times, and we waited, and waited, and waited... and then I instructed her to write quoting the Coroners' Charter that I'd found online, and threatening to make an official complaint to the LEA unless something happened sharpish, and all of a sudden they began to do what their job descriptions said they should be doing.
The CAF person has some clout over the school - or they wouldn't have lied to her. Shop them to her. To put it bluntly, the school is claiming money on the basis of youngest's statement, and then not using it for the purposes for which it has been provided. That's fraud, or something. I wonder if you can put in a freedom of information request to know how the money arising from youngest's statement has been spent by the school?
You really must be bold and kick up enough of a stink for a long enough time that things change. One of the things that spurred me into threatening the official complaint against the coroner's office was the realisation that other people were suffering too, and they were people who were in much less of a position to complain than I was. Well, obviously youngest is suffering and isn't able to do his own complaining. But what about other SEN young people who are being taught, or will be taught, at that school, but whose parents don't have your education or intelligence and wouldn't know how to complain or to whom? What about the other kids in his classes, who have to put up with a situation where teachers are distracted by trying to provide youngest with at least a little of the support a TA should be giving him? You must either report them, or threaten to report them unless specific things are done - both about the continued inadequate TA support (report to the CAF person or the LEA or whoever is most suitable) and the safeguarding issue (report to social services).Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
I'm ok. But I am losing 3 hours of my day going to work and back again.
Also, keep being told that working from 8-5:30 is a rather long day
But can't finish otherwise.
What did I miss? Anything new from anyone?
Good to hear from you again. My last job wasted three hours per day on travelling. Hope your joourneys are better than mine were.
DG sorry to hear about your health issues- hope they get resolved soon.
Sue you must have the patience of a saint to put up with the Keystone Kops level of performance of your sons school. Hope you get some satisfaction from them soon.
Chewie; well done. Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly. :beer:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Feed the smaller to the larger one- it's nature's way.
Hmmm - just realised why I got "hounded" off the pet threads about dog diet advice when I first joined MSE those many years ago. :eek:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
hi everyone, sorry not been around
will pop in once in a while now but the growing season is upon us!
Lovely to see you. Are you growing rice?I do indeed get very fed up
Their actions today will probably put the recent programme I have been working on (independent walking), back by months, I'd only just got him to be able to go to my car parked outside on his own with me watching from the door, something which had taken months of work to do....tonight he wouldn't even go out of the front door.
Frustrating. Feel sad for you both at the loss of progress in being independent.I'm dog sitting 2 dogs this weekend. Any advice?
Enjoy the break. You legitimately have a couple of days to yourself. Your accomplices will not split on you no matter what you do/don't do. A couple of nice walks, may be a swim or two and (for them) some mini bonios/treats should suffice. If they are healthy & fit they could go for a "short bike ride" with you. (Our dog does not do this any more as he can't take the pace and his joints do not like it). Enjoy the peace and quiet.
Do let them out for a wee before bed, and don't forget to furnish yourself with what ever you need to 'pick up' after them if they are walked in inhabited areas. Over provide for this as it is not pleasant and made worse by too few resources when needed.0 -
