They have to plough through three people's land and hadn't asked them first. Road , fair enough, but you'd think they'd clear it with people whose land or gardens they expect to go through.
Now I'm going to go round and explain we didn't realise and show the map we were given which showed only public highway disruption and our garden being blasted and that of course we didn't expect our neighbours ( one of whom we don't know) to just have their garden ploughed through, and if we had realised we would at least have had the grace to make an approach first!!!!
Blimey.
I suspect it's like planning permission. I can get planning permission to build a house next to yours ..... the fact it's your garden is a different matter for me to sort out0 -
My kids used the family computer for a long time. I think DS1 got a laptop for his 18th birthday - so only 5.5 years ago. DS2 got his laptop when he was 16 - 3 years ago. DS1's was replaced when it was hit by a brick! So they both now have 3 year old laptops. Neither of them have tablets. They both have iphone 4's which are out of contract. I've never thought of them as deprived until now.
Technology was a bit more novel when DD was growing up so when the family desktop was getting a bit dated she has had laptops , one which we bought when she was a teen and another one that was provided for her as she had disabled student status for her under grad degree and then moved on to a netbook that we bought for her as birthday pressie a few years ago and she took travelling.
She has an iphone3 which she paid for and on Monday ordered herself a samsung 8" tab3 which she has chosen and paid for.0 -
Today I emailed blood donor service with list of my meds etc to ask if I can finally give blood now I am feeling brighter.
. Hoping they'll say yes, obviously.
I love that all of this is doable by email.
Also, on technology wanted to mention an amazing app DH for d that lets you ID stars and constellations and even Hubble. You can do this outside, or even in bed, knowing that if you WERE outside about where your loft hatch is cancer would be.or whatever.
I'm hoping to get to b and q tomorrow so I can get some stuff for a surprise before DH comes home . I might not be able to but I'd like to.0 -
I can't give blood in case I give everyone mad cow disease.0

I can't give blood in case I give everyone mad cow disease.
I don't think I can give anyone anything.
They emailed back to ask for more details later which I guess means my drugs aren't prohibiting me (:j:j:j) its just whether they'll consider me healthy enough.
I'm very, very keen to do it.0 -

My Aussie cousin collapsed from heatstroke in the high 40s and managed to get to the nearest house and turn the hose on himself. That was in Melbourne when it was really hot a couple of years back. My QLD uncle on the other hand, wears a coat when it is below 25 as it is too cold.
The highest temperature I've ever experienced was in Delhi, a few days before the (belated) monsoon arrived. It was 49 degrees, and 99% humidity. My best mate and I arrived in Delhi at 4am, aged 21, and the temperature at that time of night was 37 degrees, and it felt like walking into a sauna. The next day, when it was so humid and hot, we felt as if we couldn't even breathe - even lying completely still and wearing almost no clothes you felt far, far too hot.lemonjelly wrote: »I got an etch-a-sketch a couple of years ago!:p
I got one, as did my next sister, in the summer of 1983, when I was 5 and she was 3. They were "going on holiday" distraction techniques / presents, and we both loved them. The holiday in Greece took a mild downturn when sister caught whooping cough, but was still great....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I don't think you should start thinking of them as deprived now, either. They certainly don't sound like modern-day Dickens slum-dwellers!
We've never really had a "family" computer - OH and I have always needed our own for work. We bought Isaac a robust desktop for Christmas 2012, but he doesn't have (or need, at the age of 8) a phone or anything else, and no playstations or other games machines.PasturesNew wrote: »Ah, but that might be handy if you're on holiday in Cornwall, on a sunny day, and want to go exploring the caves
In our holiday on the beach near Newquay last summer, I explored the caves off the beach (on which we met) with OH's LED head torch. They are very handy, as they leave you both arms and hands free.lemonjelly wrote: »I remember growing up, & a family friend had a commodore 64, then an amiga the day they came out, then various sega's/playstations the days those came out.
We had a commodore vic 20, an atari, & eventually a mega drive. Although we were a little envious at the time (my brother more than me, I was less fussed) looking back, we weren't deprived.
Sister and I were given a Spectrum 128K + 2 for a joint Christmas present in about 1986-7, can't remember exactly when. When I was 12, I got an Amiga 500 for CHristmas, which was fantastic - I did all my GCSE coursework on that, for example.
My parents bought me a laptop as a "congratulations for not failing all your GCSEs" present - I got below average GCSE results at my school, 7 As and 3 Bs (Bs in Latin, German and Maths, the subjects which dyslexia made more of a challenge for me). Once I could drop all the annoying stuff for A levels, I did better, and kept up with the Joneses, getting all As at A level....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

or whatever.
I often look up and see a bright thing and think "that's a planet... no idea which one though".0 -

He found it on searching for 'star gazing'. Why not have a look and see if there is one for your phone?
My macputer is refusing me new apps till I put payment details in.. I'm loathe to do that (I only 'buy ' free apps so I don't know why it wants payment details) so I'm not buying anything new ATM.
