I dunno. They look a bit vague. Anybody remember Telepoint phone networks like Rabbit or Phonepoint or Zonephones with thier symbols plastered all over London back in the 80s and now nowhere to be seen.
These DNA services have that kind of a feel about them to me. Not doing as much as we think they are.
A very popular service ATM in certain horse breeding circles is colour genetics testing.
Equine colour genetics are very confusing, not least because we have NEW colours because of those yanks, and colours we used to think of as being light this or that are actually different colour expressions.
For example....special girl was black 'with the fading gene' twenty years ago. But now she would have been something (this is not accurate or pretending to be ) like black with a recessive silver and red.
Poor practise breeding breeds particularly for colour expression not looking at health or conformation, and this has been a long problem in America and the travelling community and some breeds here increasingly, but seems to really be picking up a pace from what I read.
I LOVE the special colours, I would definitely want one, but some command TREMENDOUS prices, over and above a healthy, sound house of a more ordinary colour.
There is a saying, a good horse is never a bad colour. Sadly a good colour horse is increasingly likely to be a poor horse. Its like rascism in reverse. Aren't we odd......people?0 -

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
About the kind of Jewish relatives who get upset about Isaac having a non-Jewish parent - do they also get upset about him having parents who aren't married, or are they fine about that?
Fortunately, the existence of a child who speaks Hebrew, and is taken regularly to Israel to play with his cousins, and who knows about Passover and Yom Kippur and so forth has calmed things down immensely - and the older generation have now died out.
Even the very religious younger relatives don't make a fuss now it's all sorted; they were more fussed when they thought the situation could be changed, and now it obviously can't, they reckon. They were a lot more bothered about a future non-Jewish mother than they are now the position is established.
I don't think they know we aren't married; you use the same word in Hebrew for wife / long-term partner anyway, apparently, so there's no bother about it. Obviously, they know we wouldn't have had a "proper" wedding, but there's never been any mention of it.
My Mama coming to Israel several times, and my Dad once, helped a lot too.Could you try pointing out that King David had a Shiksa for a grandmother?
Not worth boat-rocking now, I reckon! I've always thought that David was a very strange man to choose as a hero, anyway - all that getting married women pregnant, and then bumping off her husband when he was too devoted to duty to be fooled about the fatherhood of the baby seems most dubious to me....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Washing meat would fail you on a health inspection. It's highly frowned on as an unsafe practice. The problem is that it can spread bacteria to sink, countertops and other surfaces on your kitchen.
I don't particularly agree with it, but the standard advice in the UK is not to wash meat.
But you can clean your kitchen surfaces etc! It's considered best practice to cook and eat meat that may have been mistreated, dropped, kicked, etc before packaged, in favour of ensuring your kitchen that you choose to keep clean, or not, doesn't spread bacteria.
I am happy to fail the health inspection.Still striving to be mortgage free before I get to a point I can't enjoy it.

Yes, very dubious indeed - and presented as such in the text. But Bible characters are generally presented warts and all. In the theological circles in which I move, David is generally regarded as somebody who began with a great deal of promise, and accomplished a great deal in the first half of his life, but didn't finish particularly well. However, right to the end of his life there's something quite unusual about his lack of desire for revenge when betrayed by those close to him. (Mainly Saul and Absolom, but also in his attitude to the assassination of Abner, for example.)Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Presented as such in the text, definitely. But not in the whole context, in Israel at least. All the Stars of David, and City of David, and King David Hotel, and all the rest of it, err heavily on the side of hero-worship. There's more than a hint of that in Christianity, too, I think? Especially at Christmas, you get the whole "from the House of David" line about the birth of Jesus....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

Well, there only ever were three kings of All Israel before it split, and Saul was obviouly a train wreck, and Solomon not much better by the end of his life, so David's the only one available for hero worship, and a natural figure to choose if you're trying to recreate Israel as a nation after 1945, I suppose.
The Christmas stuff seems to me to be about being of royal descent as per messianic prophecies, I think, with a pinch of reference to rescuing his people from their enemies. Not that the "forgiving those who betrayed him" thing is irrelevant either.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Wild and windy storm just started raging outside - it's been pretty quiet all weekend. DM showed some local flooding photos, but I've not been out for a look at all.0
