The ones that you can use as indicators of your ethnic make up and determining family history, rather than the ones that say "this is your child" or testing for a specific illness.
Would appreciate your opinion as someone who has a lot of knowledge in that area.
I'm in the dark about this - it's totally slipped by me.
Have you any links?
I've an online chum in Iceland who's been interviewed on click about an app everybody uses up there. When you meet someone you exchange phone info that tells you if you're related, so you don't end up dating your cousin. Important when your population's about a third of a million!;) (Edit; it's 17mins into the video). There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
I very very rarely visit this board but I thought i'd post here simply because of the title of the thread so as to try and clean some of the dirt off me that I picked up from reading most of the other threads.
HNY.
We're all very nice here. Mad as hatters, of course, but not in a nasty way!no I don't. is that a "Debate house prices & the economy" initial chat up line?
It's part of the mad nice people thing. You are expected to have strong views on mushrooms, either for or against, and a lot of us (not including me) are scientists, a lot of us live in Herts (again, not including me, I live in Outer Herts, otherwise known as the rest of the world) and a lot of us are either Jewish or have Jewish significant others (including me, I'm not Jewish, but my dearly beloved is)....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I'm employed by my company, that I own 100% of. So does that make me employed or self-employed?
Check your tax returns? I bet the Inland Revenue has a Definite View of such situations?I am intending to do ours tomorrow. (I mean later today, technically - that is, after I've been to sleep and woken up again.) Whether or not I actually get round to it is another matter.
I agree with you - tomorrow is after you go to bed and then get up again, whether or not it's passed midnight when you actually use the word or think about the concept....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

My genetic background is very simple - I reckon "white British" does pretty much sum me up. I know all of my ancestors back to at least 1700 were born in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland, so it seems straight forward in my case. OH ticks "White other", and feels that sorts him out, too.lostinrates wrote: »I really am fascinated by the sort of gene tests that are meant to show your genetic country of origins. I'd love one done to see how it reflects what I know about my family tree. I find 'phenotype expression' of people's country of origins fascinating. I've tyes and restyled this several times and however I try and explain it I sound more new nazi than curious wonderment at the brilliance of people's travel and history, which is what it actually is (the latter) and how this can show in the gene expression of an individual. I find that......amazing. Like a treasure, a magic person in fairy tales who unites people.
Doesn't sound remotely Nazi to me. I agree with you.vivatifosi wrote: »Yes, that's the one we use at work. It is still flawed though. You can't for example be a mix of British and Romany.
If you had all the possible combinations, I imagine it would be a booklet that people wouldn't even bother looking at?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I went out for 2 hours to Sainsbury's and am not sure I can keep up - is it saying something about how horrible it is outside?PasturesNew wrote: »If you're super good looking and awesome and stand on my foot in public, I'll call you a c***.... if you're fat/ginger/with glasses etc etc and you stand on my foot in public I'll call you a fat c***, ginger c***, 4-eyed c*** etc etc.lostinrates wrote: »Last day of dh's holiday. . Its not grevious. Had a good run on my feet. Think body is probably reminding me not to get over confident.
Like SC I would have assumed that spending the last day of FIR's break in bed would have been things going to plan.PasturesNew wrote: »I've never understood the whole J-hating thing. As I see it they were allowed to perform a function that some other religions weren't. The followers of those religions were happy enough to use those services.
They seemed to do it well. Getting on with what they did, a bit of trade and commerce. Doing well. Creating society and harmony.
I've never heard of a bunch starting a war (maybe I'm just poorly informed/educated) .... but I can't see an actual reason that so many people have disliked one group for so long.
Now, other group hating I can see there's a basis for it.
But never the Js.
Odd to me.
Well in France their seems to be a move to link the banking crisis to the J's (Goldman Sachs I guess) and some pretty ugly stuff is thus happening. imagine if our anarchists took the same line, they do not hold back from attacking those who they hold responsible.I think....0 -

Inland Revenue classes me as both, PAYE income as an employee and dividend income as other earnings. IR also uses the definition of a close company. I doubt any of these things extend to ticking one of very few boxes in a survey.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. AFAIK in France it is illegal to collect stats on race as this is seen as racist. Doesn't seem to have worked in terms of avoiding racial prejudice in France.
OH has a strong desire to avoid declaring himself Jewish in any official form or for any official purpose. He reckons it's a practice that has caused harm far more than good in any historical or geographical context, so he avoids it....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

There was a whole lot of the "Christ killers" stuff going on in the Middle Ages - during the First Crusade, the People's Crusade lead by Peter the Hermit massacred a fair few Jews on its way to getting wiped out near Constantinople. And there were quite a few massacres during the Black Death in the 1350s, people looking for a culprit / scapegoat.
One of the lovely things that England gave the world is the Blood Libel - the idea still entertained in some parts of the world that Jews use the blood of local children to make their special Passover foods. A particularly mad idea, as Jewish food laws ban the use of blood in any cooking, even if its from Kosher animals. It kicked off in England in the 12th century
