I know this is the NP thread ..... but I was just shocked to read this woman's age.
I'm older than her!

And it worries me how I might look to others... maybe I'd look a lot older than her if my photo were included0 -
Youngest has the same experience PN, all the bullies and the popular kids think he is cool because he comes up with (to them), off the wall responses. Apparently, they all think he is great because he doesn't do what the 'normal' kids do, he'll say it as it is to the teachers etc if they ask a silly or obvious question.
The kids all try to talk to him but as he doesn't like people, he never talks back to them or gets involved in the groups, which makes them want to know him more!
After his "Freeing the slaves" comment in the late book, that feeling is also spreading to the teachers.....:rotfl:We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

You wouldn't look older Pastures... I've met you remember. She looks a good 15 if not 25 years older at least.
Do you have a link to the article please? I now need to see the photos in context. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I so want to meet your youngest Sue. He sounds sooooo cool. I want to speak to him about business and his interest in it. Though he probably won't be slightly interested and I'll have to wait to read his autobiography.
And as for Freeing the Slaves. Forget selfie being the word of the year. Freeing the Slaves is NPT phrase of the year. I still haven't stopped having little chuckles to myself about that.
The other two sound pretty special too. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I have long since come to the conclusion that I look younger than many of my contemporaries. But on looking at me, they probably think the same thing.Still striving to be mortgage free before I get to a point I can't enjoy it.

As I see it they were allowed to perform a function that some other religions weren't. The followers of those religions were happy enough to use those services.
They seemed to do it well. Getting on with what they did, a bit of trade and commerce. Doing well. Creating society and harmony.
I've never heard of a bunch starting a war (maybe I'm just poorly informed/educated) .... but I can't see an actual reason that so many people have disliked one group for so long.
Now, other group hating I can see there's a basis for it.
But never the Js.
Odd to me.
Well, two reasons, I think. One is because they've historically been very good at maintaining their cultural identity, so that makes other people aware of who's Jewish and who isn't. If stupid and/or evil people are looking for a group to be the object of their hatred, they like to pick an easily identifiable group who can be labelled as "different".
Secondly, because historically they've been very good at making the most of bad circumstances. So, in middle ages Europe, they weren't allowed to own land, so they became very good at doing business (including what we would now call financial services). If other people have made less of a success of their lives despite having had the advantage of being allowed to own land, some of them might feel envious, and envy is often the first step towards hatred.I remember the programme 'Love thy neighbour' as well. Everyone watched it. Wasn't it funny? Well, no it wasn't remotely funny for people to be called names at school because the telly said it was acceptable and the parents thought it was a good programme. Children can be really cruel without the understanding of what they are saying and the full meaning.
I never saw it. We didn't have a TV in those days.Having said that, the type of bullying on this forum doesn't appear to be related to the protected characteristics under the Equalities Act, but just down to pack mentality related to perceived intelligence and free speech. And I don't think this will end, because people will always wish to be in one team or another, be that football, political groups or just that innate feeling that I am superior to you because of my job or education.
It's not just forum bullying that goes well beyond the protected characteristics. I was bullied at school for the combination of being clever and small - I was not only very short for my age but a year younger than everyone else.As a generalisation, I have found that most non whites do not mind being asked where they are from, born, or where their parents were from, depending on the tone and the questions leading up to it.
I think most people are happy if it's in the general context of wanting to know more about them as people, but not if they feel you're trying to categorise them into a box. Which is fair enough.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Coincidentally, tha school I was talking about was the one with the brown socks my cats hated I mentioned the other day. (My cats showed definite racist tendency I hate to say). I googles it afterwards and it has a fountain I do not remember and seems to be running both English and American syllabi now.
And, heavens above,to there is a library. Its as if they want children to learn there now!0 -

I've just watched a beautiful programme on BBC1, called Moving On. Sheila Hancock was a widow with grown-up children (one of whom had children). She met a former Gurkha on holiday and they fell in love. The rest of the programme was about how people reacted to their relationship and the impacts it had. I won't say any more in case anyone wants to watch it on catch-up, but it was really very moving in places. SH is such a superb actress.
