This is the beach (bog standard Aussie beach):

This, however, is the road you drive along to get there:

Just taken snaps of next door's path as that's paving stones, so is a "measure" of if the flooding is worsening or not. Better to have photos to compare than rely on memory.

OH saw all that in Luton. It didn't travel this far south.

James got it in High Wycombe....we just got heavy rain here.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Bothering to think a little about nutrition is a lot more important, IMO, for a boy on the verge of beginning his major adolescent growth spurt than for someone who's been their full adult height for several years already.

For one thing, I am not "producing two different meals". I'm not "producing meals" for a family in the sense that you do. There are only the three of us, and my current mental state doesn't allow for much advance planning of food. So feeding the kids (and myself) consists mainly of going into the kitchen, looking in the fridge and freezer, and grabbing a selection of things that can be cooked without much effort and will include some carb, some protein and some fruit/veg. So when I ask him what he's happy to eat if he won't eat the sausages and bacon, I just make sure that the selection of things includes some things for everyone. I was frying eggs for myself anyway, and it wasn't exactly difficult to open a tin of tuna and mix some mayo in with it. Nothing got cooked that was eaten by just him, but no pair of the three of us had exactly the same combination.

Secondly, the strategy of "you want something different so you cook it yourself" isn't really wise to apply to a kid with some emotional problems, a very small appetite, and a tendency to not eating (or not eating enough), although I agree it's a great strategy to use with kids who don't have these issues. Given his history, I was just happy he not only ate but *wanted* to eat a decent sized meal with a balance of things, which is why I posted.

I've had to do different meals at the same time for years due to food allergies/intolerances amongst the boys, me and ex hubby...makes no difference to me at all. I've become a master at it now...

    Needs must and all that....

Look after yourselves in the floods. Remember, most people that are hurt in a flood enter the flood waters voluntarily. Usually to travel or to retrieve something.

Lots of kids opt out of school dinners now because they are quite expensive if you are not entitled to FSM. If you can afford it and your kids are fussy eaters it is easier and cheaper to make them stuff you know they will eat.

I have to top up the boy's FSM token as the school has this weird set up where they can get, for example, meat and 1 veg but no potato and gravy or meat, potato but no veg and nothing for a drink/condiments/fruit.

So, I give them a top up so they can get a drink and a piece of fruit/the additional veggie item.

Middle son now tends to go for a chicken panini which is within the token and he uses the top up to get a drink and a piece of fruit (it is cheaper to give the top up amount rather than buying them and him taking them in thankfully!)

We used to have a jug of water on the table. No other drinks were available. Very occasionally, one of the meal options would include a pink milkshake (a flat one, not a bubbly/fluffy one), I can't remember what that was served with, but I do know I never had it as I didn't like what it came with.

There was no snack shop/tuck shop. There were water fountains around the school, a drinking water tap in the loos and a jug of water and a tap to refill the jug in the dining room.

I've bitten the bullet and sorted out broadband  Only taken me 3 months. Oops. I've gone for BT as the line needs reactivating (must be at least 6 months since it was active), and taking into account cashback and offers I think it was the best deal.

It's been a fairly productive few days. I've also finally sent off the form to change my 'registered keeper' address to the DLVA (had to pick up form which was at parents, driving licence had already been done), called Dyson to get them to come round and fix my vac (needed to collect receipt which was also at parents), and register with a GP (prompted by needing an appointment, but still going to take it as a victory).

Had a rock'n'roll Friday night taking up a curtain - which is now hanging over the front door. Will do the other of the pair later today for double insulation. If I'm not bored of sewing by then I've got a shower curtain to take up as a 'curtain' for the bathroom too :)
