Ta all, might post on the Car board to see if they have any ideas.

And to top it all, I decided to have a go at the 5:2 diet (where you eat only 500 calories on 2 days per week and eat normally the rest of the time). It's the first day today and I'm HUNGRY :wall:

The secret is to find the most exciting 500 calories you can .... make that your quest. I'd make one day a Yorkshire pudding/veggies day for sure. And a cheeseless frittata day.... I'd even work out how to have an egg and chips day.... loads of choices.
  • That doesn't sound terribly nutritious, though......

We never have decorations on the table. No room. It used to be a struggle to get the Xmas dinner to fit on the table!

There are no Xmas pictures whatsoever from my life. My dad only took photos on our holidays/day trips to the beach. He probably shot two 24-exposure films per year.

Does that matter? If the purpose is to lose weight, it's best to optimise the 500 cal opportunities so you look forward to those days, rather than giving up :)

My mother's a perfectionist. So she sends people on missions to pick various bits of greenery, and then gets blocks of oasis and makes the table decorations herself.

As for fitting the dinner on the table, we don't - my mother carves the turkey (otherwise my Dad would hack it into great lumps) but all the assorted veg in on hot plates at the side of the room:

I had a chicken stir fry with lots of veggies but no noodles. It was very tasty but it isn't two mince pies with brandy cream!

I had one mince pie over Xmas, as a pack of 6 had been bought and needed eating and they were warmed up.... I've never had brandy cream. I'd try it, if it were ever available, I've just not been where it's available and I wouldn't buy it to try it.
  • It's dead easy to make, I think - my mother makes brandy butter, rum butter and brandy cream, and says it's simple. Not that I ate any this year, far too queasy-inducing. Nor did I get to enjoy her mince pies - she made normal ones, and gluten-free ones (for my sister and Dad) but reckoned she'll only make gluten-free next year, as they seemed pretty similar.

The "pregnancy diet" works well for me, but the side-effects are significant.....
