Good to have you back. I find it very hard to relax in someone else's (even close family) house.

Me too... glad you are back home as well Pastures. There's no place like home. I feel so sorry for those who couldn't stay at home over Christmas due to floods and power cuts. They must feel so displaced.

We just got a new fridge/freezer before Xmas, one of those big American style jobs.

Absolutely cavernous interior, and much better to get things in and out of than a chest freezer. Keeping the old one in the utility room too, so plenty of space for bargain hunting.

Picked up some heavily discounted meats and ready meals on Xmas eve to fill it up with too.:)

we had one of those in the last place but there was hardly any space in the freezer side as it was dominated by the ice cube maker and the water/ice dispenser. looked like it was going to be massive from the outside but you could only get about four loaves of bread and a bag of peas in there.

I went to look at the evening bag to day Pastures, the one in sparkly shop at what's become our meeting place. I didn't like it after all. Isn't it funny? Its the brushes on it that I don't like, the rest m,ages me laugh.

I didn't like it. But a pair of earrings came home with me and a hair grippy thing. The good thing about having lost some hair is that I can wear those grippy pincer hair things that never held my hair when I was a teen or in early teens. :).

I saw clouds the other day with cold linings and thought I must get a photo of some of those one day, for the days when silver linings just aren't enough.

I thought it was bizarre and impractical :)
Didn't look at the price, if shown, but figured it'd be a lot.

I'd left the heating on automatic while I was away, on the "twice" setting.... thing is I have no idea how long that's for. I also didn't take a gas reading before I left.... but I know a recent gas reading was 35.... so I just checked and the meter now says 52. So, it's probably used a LOT more than I would have... and I am currently freezing my nuts off waiting for this heating to come on, so I can discover what "twice" does and when.

Evening bags are kinda meant to be bizarre and impractical. :D. I liked the idea but I just don't like the brushes.

There are some really beautiful and extortionate priced ones.

Ah, I didn't know it was an evening bag. I've never had an evening bag. I have "a bag". I need a new "a bag" though.

Most likely your meter is metric and your 17 units of gas will have cost you about 5 to 7 quid (on a standing charge tariff). If it is an imperial meter then it will be about 20 quid.
    I think....

It was brand new in May. It's just I'd used 35 units to sometime in December .... and about half again in the last week + some days. So it's proportionately more.

"Twice" started at 4.45. I did turn all the rads down to lowest though.... I had to leave the heating on in case there were a sudden and unexpected sub-zero temperature event that rushed in the minute my back was turned.

Will need to replace built-in single electric fan oven at some point in the not-too-distant future. The current one uses a 13A plug.

The vast majority of replacement ovens now require hardwiring.

I know I'll have to get a sparky in to quote for a new circuit from the fuse box through the washing machine understair cupboard, a wall and the kitchen cabinets to the rear (?) of the oven recess.

However, assuming that the cost and impact isn't too great, then I suppose the world is my oyster as regards replacement oven.

I could go for a straight replacement oven which just slots in. Or a double oven, which would require extra carpentry work to enlarge the recess.

Most of my cooking involves a large casserole dish but would like to do some baking. It's just me most of the time.

What are NPs' thoughts about oven selection? What things would you look out for in a new oven, and what would you consider a gimmick?

I'd love a light and a programmable timer.

No present plans to replace the gas hob, unless there's a particular reason I don't know about which makes it a good idea to do it at the same time?
