It's more Herts-on-Ocean. Calling the Pacific Ocean (from which the moon might have been carved by a mighty blow from a meteorite) a sea is like calling London a town: it's rather more than that.
Is it like the Tasmanians calling Australia "North Island"?:)There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Or calling the Atlantic "the pond"?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

I have become far less English.
I was chatting with a relatively recent arrival to these shores that I now see very clearly what annoys Aussies about Britons. I'm starting to go native.
Aussies tell me that I understate still but maybe that's a relative thing.0 -

Well, ouch. :rotfl:0 -
Silly silly me.
I got showered and changed before checking how much wood we had in. Grrrrrrrrr.....
But yay........I feel well enough to go and bring wood in!!!!!0 -
Oh and I forgot to say, Christmas holidays have started. I excelled myself in the wandering around the office chatting to people rather than doing anything productive stakes today. I did less work than a Civil Service HR manager.
The most productive thing I did was eat homemade ice cream with my boss.
Now no work until 6th Jan. Nothing. Nada. I've got my feet up in front of the NZ v WI (West Indies not Women's Institute) Test match. Egg and chips and a nice glass of white for dinner (no posh alert on dinner I think).
Life is sweet.
So is it more like old Europe than productive America when it comes to annual leave is Aus?I'm still fathoming out how to use this Forum, but I like the idea of Nice People. In my world I like things to be sunny and cheerful.
A lovely man that I know always says if you can't feel wood round you when you waken up in a morning (a coffin), you know it's going to be a good day.
Very true!

Which means I lost the early bathroom slot and have to wait for resident parent to finish. There is a set routine, longer than anyone less I have ever lived with, but it means I know how much time I have:rotfl:
Parent is off today for Christmas. DH comes home.
Despite having 4 bathrooms (well 3 and a shower room) we still seem to end up running a very tight schedule involving just 1 each morning.
At least when I opened the blinds at 6.45 this morning the light streamed in - just a shame it was moon lightStill it will be lighter earlier starting on Monday

Hmm - if they find you modest it may not be the country for a wall flower like me....I think....0 -

When I was a lad I was surprised to see that when you hold the gobe the right way, the Pacific Ocean fills a whole hemisphere. We put it at the edge of our maps. I suppose in Oz they have it in the middle.
Mind you, I used to imagine that in the southern hemisphere that they'd have maps arranged "upside down" with the southern hemisphere at the top and Britain in the bottom half. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Medieval maps tend to have Jerusalem at the centre, I think?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
