Having just bailed my Daughter out, with £26k of CC debt, on 16 cards, all maxed out the companies are still issuing them left, right, and centre. They don,t care who they give them too. It,s a race to the bottom.

Well they've done well out of you/ your daughter. And no doubt have profited handsomely, indications seem to be that extending credit to your daughter is underwritten by you, so in business terms have done well.

Sounds as though your daughter needs a dose of reality or the cycle could start all over again.

She,s had the dose, however, the companies should not have allowed her so many at one time. As eskbanker stated, how long before Amex et al pick up on the number of cards,13' I have 8' but only use 2,unless shopsmall is on, then 3.and never a day goes by, they ask if I want more.I,m gonna cut some up,cannot possibly use them , the 5 percents a sprat to catch a mackerel.as OP, stated, too good to miss! Famous last words! Probably what my daughter said on the first card?
They always profit don,t they;make it too easy to get credit cards, max out, and get another. The BR thread on here is full of the likes of my daughter, and growing daily.Unfortunately, at 52, you think they have grown up, but, alas, she didn,t, credit was easy to get.
I could have let her go BR, but, where,s the responsability in that?
    You borrow, you pay back.
She,s payed me back, slowly, but, there,s plenty of others to replace her
.I make my cards pay me, but, at others expense.? The losers pay for the winners, that,s why Amex et al allow you to have so many cards, as the OP asked.

That's a pretty impressive array of 13 credit cards you already have according to your signature - even if they all have negligible balances and/or were taken out primarily for the peripheral benefits, there might presumably come a point where CC providers would baulk at allowing access to yet more credit?

None of them has a balance. I take advantage of 0% offers quite frequently and I'm forever chopping and changing between cards. I generally close them down once an offer expires (so I can later benefit as a new customer), I just haven't got round to closing the accounts whose offers have expired in the last few months.

A couple has just sent me fresh 0% offers which I'm contemplating (but I never spend just for the sake of it...). I'll most probably keep these cards since they've offered further 0% offers rather than just as a new customer.

For the sake of the total available credit, I should really close some of them asap as they've never been used since the offers expired. Haven't paid interest on a credit card in about 3 years and intend on keeping it that way.

Good on you, Amex, fine you if you don,t use it within 12 months, and as I stated, they now don,t pay the first £25 of cashback??, it,s easy to let them gather dust, or in my daughters case, use them when strapped, she had extenuating circumstances.I always keep Amex and Mastercard, as they won,t take Amex at a lot of places.Just about to cancel 2 Cap 1 ,s, never use it, had the 5%, a while back.
I,ve just had all my shopsmall £5,s refunded from saturday, £120 worth of meat for £60, couldn,t be bothered running round too much, or it would have been more. This is probably the best CC deal going, when it,s out. It,s worth hanging on to the plats, I have 2 , one in wifes name, and I have Mbna also,(default), strictly for this deal, it pays handsomely.I phoned them yesterday, they tried to get me to take more:
    Good luck.

That,s just come out, I had the letter a couple of weeks ago They want to get me to have the £25 fee one or above .I rarely use it now, except for shopsmall, I find Mbna better cashback for my means,(except at xmas), 1.5% on supermarket, petrol, and 0.7% on everything else. The only other way is to use only one card, which would have to be a mastercard, which I have, Cap 1 Aspire, as there,s lots of places won,t take Amex.
That,s the pitfall of tiered cards.
Horses for courses.. If I used a lot of petrol, the 123 would be more beneficial.
