Help! Phone stolen - £780 later

If I that is the case, this supports my earlier post: If you do as I did and get a phone that does everything you need (Huawei Y300) and use Ovivo, the total cost for 2 years is £60 (phone) and £0 for the usage with no risk of big financial losses if the phone is lost or stolen, the phone isn't valuable enough to mug me for, no stress if I can't find my phone temporarily as it will probably turn up again (which it does) and I've still got my phone at the end of 2 years (may not be worth much to sell on but still working fine for me to keep on using).
Whereas the earlier poster is hundreds of £ out of pocket and doesn't have a phone at the end because he's had to sell it to recoup part of the money he's shelled out on contract!
He's also also had to faff around with cashback deals or whatever plus market and sell his phone. Hassle. Hassle.
And he went through 2 years of risk of high financial losses for lost/stolen phone (which didn't materialise in his case but could have done).
And he never even realised he was hundreds of pounds out of pocket (if he double counted the phone value in the calculation).
Demonstrating that PAYG and buying great value phones outright is for prudent people who know how much they are spending and contract phones are for people who don't.
Thats great if thats what works for you, however not everyone wants a budget phone. Certainly wouldnt suit me for my use. Again, the same applies with your tarriff. For a lot of people 200 minutes, 300 texts and only 500MB of data is not enough, however if that suits you, then thats great.
Ive had high end smartphones for many many years and in that time have never lost, broken or had one stolen. If the worst did ever happen, its all included in my banks extra services - so no hardship. Im presuming you must be clumsy, forgetful or not very security savvy, in which case a budget phone sounds ideal for you.
At then end of the contract, im not hundreds of pounds out of pocket without a phone - I start a new contract and get another high end smartphone! Again, I dont have to sell it, but its not much use gathering dust in a draw!
Cashback isnt a hassle. Im guessing youve never had to claim it so have no idea.Market my phone? Not at all. Just use a cashback site that offers the best price. Pop phone in the post and receive money into my bank account within a couple of days.
You have a very patronising attitude. You do realise its also money saving choosing the correct handset on the correct tariff, whether its PAYG or contract? I know exactly how much im spending each month and I know exactly how much my contract is going to cost me for its duration.
My summary? Do whats best for you.Whether its PAYG or contract, dont let people judge without the facts.0 -
It's cheeky not to mention that 'extra services' are not free.powerful_Rogue wrote: »...If the worst did ever happen, its all included in my banks extra services
Many people have absolutely different experience, especially with the companies that offer the best price.....Just use a cashback site that offers the best price. Pop phone in the post and receive money into my bank account within a couple of days.
That said, this doesn't mean that I agree with Herongull and disagree with you. I was a big fan of redemption contracts before they degraded a couple of years ago.0 -

I wouldn't call it cheeky as we use this service for all its benefits. Its not just for the mobile cover. So £10 a month gets us breakdown cover for two cars, household emergency cover, travel insurance and cover for two mobile phones.0 -
I know.
It's definitely cheaper than buying everything separately.
The only question is whether you would have spent £120 p.a. on the services you really need.
E.g. travel insurance is available for free (+£20 if you really need worldwide); cheapest breakdown cover with homestart is just £39; personally, I never pay for house emergency cover, etc.
As you say, "great if thats what works for you".0 -

Defiantly. Home emergency care alone is around £10 a month, so time you add the cover for two cars etc for us its completely worth it.
Had to have a new fusebox installed two days before xmas in 2011 which was all covered by the homecare insurance. Wouldnt be without it!0 -
thought I would update where I got with this...
so in the end the bill was £954.73 inc VAT.....
emailed Olaf Swantee the CE and one of the Executive team got in touch.
initally they agreed to cut bill by £100 - I told them this wasnt good enough.....
After much persuasion they have agreed to take off £300 - still not fantastic but better than a kick in the teeth
many many lessons learnt here!!
Merry Christmas everyone!!0
