Unlike DLA, ESA is actually an indefinite award, it can be reviewed at any time once 3 months has passed since the original decision. The maximum period is 3 years (for Support Group) or 2 (for WRAG).

The reassessment date is only advisory, although I think most people find that it is generally adhered to. In fact, I know of some people who are still awaiting reassessment some months after they anticipated it - probably due to the backlog. You should expect your new ESA50 form to arrive about 4 months before the reassessment date, if you have not had it before.

Yes nothing is stopping the DWP re-assessing everyone every three months no matter which group they are in or how long the award was originally made for.

This is the reason why IB had to be closed and why ESA was brought in. Many 1,000's on IB were never questioned or bothered with for 10 years or more. On ESA it is a precondition that regular reviews will be made.

Additionally the intelligence gathered through an ESA review is cross matched to any award of DLA that is in payment also.

    Is it really, Andy.
  • They can't even sort out the people who are getting migrated from IB to ESA, so wouldn't worry too much about them sending you another ESA50 to fill in.

pstuart..where did you get that info from? Haven't read anyone else mentioning it before.

So why aren't they devoting far more time and energy into re-assessing those who have been on IB for years?

Hmmm...i am due for re assessment in January, i have recieved no ESA 50 form yet.
    Owed out = lots.
  • melbury...they are spending a lot of time re-assesing those of us who claim IB. Problem is, they are inundated with ESA50 forms because obviously they are trying to re-asses everyone in one go. So there appears to be a huge backlog. They haven't got the sense to re-asses a few people at a time.

There have been people on here who have been waiting months and months to hear from DWP with regards to migration or re-assesments.

I wasn't due to be re-assessed until Jan 2015, yet I received my ESA50 in August. Still haven't heard anything.

Isn't it the case that if you haven't heard for 3months you can take it that they've reached their decision and you're automatically referred to the support group?

I'm afraid not. What led you to believe that?
