What happened to rewarding hard workers- Autumn Statement

I'm sick of hearing the whinging coming from the lower dregs of society about how little income they have to live on. If they weren't so thick or lazy then they might be able to afford the better things in life without the taxpayer having to bail them out.

What about the real hardworkers, those with incomes of £75k+? Where is our reward for not being a burden on the rest of society.

Yet again the tax allowance is increasing, yet again the thick/lazy/!!!!less will get to keep more of their earnings AND be given an income in benefits paid for by hardworking people like me.

It is not possible for these people on NMW or just above to be classed as hardworking. If they were hardworking they would be earning decent amounts of money.

Anyone on such salaries, less than the national average, are on such low rates because they don't deserve to be earning any more. That to me indicates that they are lazy, thick, useless and in most cases a combination of all 3. They are nothing but the dregs of society.

Why then, when this Government talks about rewarding the hardworking, are these lazy barstewards the only ones who seem to be rewarded.

That is the problem with this country, we reward failure.

Surely if you cut income tax, all workers benefit whether highly or lowly paid.....?

there are no cuts in income taxes in general

the increase in personal allowance is a cut for those under the 40% tax band but above that it is all clawed back by reducing the start of the band.
so about 3 million more people will now be paying 40% tax than before 2010.

Be intersted to know what may of these people on 75k salaries do that is of any use to anyone.

I would cut tax to zero for the self employed entrepreneurs who in turn employ others.

    Nice
You know health care workers, the ladies that go round that look after your Nan, or Auntie when they are unable to look after themselves? They don't get paid much more than minimum wage in many cases. OK, academically, they may not be up there with the hedge fund managers and bankers, but you try telling an elderly person, who relies on them for survival, that they are thick and lazy and don't deserve support
There is only so much people really need to live on, the rest becomes excess, that is usually wasted. I heard Charles Saatchi spends nearly £10k a year getting his silverware cleaned this morning, if thats what people 'need' this excess for, then in my opinion its probably better taken from them and used elsewhere

An interesting and varied set of views on the same subject of low pay....

Surely it makes sense to everyone that there are at least a couple od 'dimensions' to this. It's not just about lazy or hardworking.

To start with, line up 1,000 working age people at random. Then test everyone for their ability to clean silver. I would guess at least 999 of them could. But ask how many can work a computer, then perhaps you're down to 700 of them. Now ask which of them can design a gearbox for a brand new design of car and you may be lucky to find 3 or 4 of them.....

It is patently obvious that in a free market there is a different 'price' for every range of skills - between £10K and £75K. A lot of this is due to 'self investment' - or going to university, then training to develop those skills - all at little or no pay for 6 years - so that they can demand a higher income later on.

The other dimension is how "hard" [and/or 'cleverly'/efficiently] one works within a specific job. If I can only clean 30 silver spoons a day, and do them rather badly, and scowl at 'her ladyship' whenever I see her, I am probably worth less than someone else who can clean 200 spoons a day, all to perfection, and has a pleasing disposition...

Personally, I get equally irritated with a 'skilled' person on £75K who is lazy, ineffective, and unreliable, as I do with a silver cleaner on £10K who is the same.

It is, sadly, a poor state of affairs when the whole of society is jointly funding 'lazy unskilled' people to sit at home all day. Even worse when a 'hard working unskilled person' also has to pay tax to subsidise a 'lazy higher skilled' person to sit at home.

Given that a hard working unskilled person, these days, tends to get - say - £13K to £15K [Minimum wage or a bit more], then to me it implies that a non-working person, skilled or otherwise - should be put into a 'payscale' much lower than this.

If they don't have dependants then as a non skilled worker they only get JSA, if they qualify. If they have other commitments, needs and dependants then they get additional provision, as in deed many of the hard working primary earners on £13k would, to supplement their income. the additional benefits being largely "due" to the dependants.

    Well this is rather interesting.

Those on lower than 75k incomes appear to be thick and lazy.

So what's with the username on a 75k+ salary?
