iPhone 4s not connecting to WiFi after software update

I have an ongoing issue after I recently updated the software on my iPhone 4s to version iOS7.

Since the software update my 'phone will no longer connect to WiFi. I have spoken to Apple about this and then I advised me to do a factory reset. I have now done this twice and still the issue persists.

I have spoken to Apple again and they said that there must be a hardware issue with my phone and that, as the warranty has long since expired, I would need to pay for any repair!

A quick search using Google has revealed that there are so many people whose 4s have suffered similar "hardware" issues after the upgrade to iOS7. What an amazing coincidence!

My p.o.v. is that the phone was functioning perfectly until I updated the software and, therefore, it is not my fault if the phone no longer works as it did prior to the update.

Apple are being intransigent about this which seems a rather short-sighted attitude given that this is probably their most important sales period.

  • Obviously it's a software issue if wifi worked ok prior to upgrading to ios7. Just take it into any apple store and they should sort it out there and then.

Does it not connect to any wifi at all?

As suggested if you can take it to a genius bar and get them to sort it.

The WiFi 'button' is greyed out. It will not connect to WiFi or Bluetooth.

When I phoned Apple they were adamant that it was a hardware issue.

    They gave me 3 choices:
    1. Take it to an Apple store (the nearest is approx. 3 hour round-trip) They would assess the cost to carry out the repair.
    2. Post the phone back to Apple. They would assess the cost to repair.
3.Apple would send me a replacement phone. They would hold a charge of £500 against my cc.If I did not return my phone then they would charge the full £500. If I did return my phone then they would 'only' charge me the cost of the repairs.
  • Have you also done a network reset in io7? Settings>general>reset>reset network settings

Yes. I did it after each factory reset and again when I read your post. No change.

Take it into an Apple store and ask them to connect it up to the instore wifi.

That should help your case when they can't...
  • As daft as it sounds try putting it in the freezer for 15 mins as that has worked for some:

  • Thanks for the suggestion b.f. I had read of that solution prior to posting on this board. Others have commented on the same matter and it seems to only work temporarily - if at all.

I do appreciate your suggestion but it does not alter the fact that my 'phone was working fine right up until I had to have the software 'upgrade' from Apple.
  • Then book a Apple Genius Bar appointment ASAP. Even though your phone is out of warranty, theres a good chance Apple will replace your phone there and then with a refurbished (almost brand new) handset once you explain the issue. Apple store have been known to give free out of warranty replacements. Good luck!
  • My partner went through four 4S's in less than a year.

Two of the issues she had were after IOS updates (not IOS 7) and both related to wifi. Like you, the wifi switch was greyed out.

Thankfully we aren't too far away from the Apple store in Milton Keynes. Both times they blamed the hardware, even though the issues arrived right after an update.

Luckily enough the phones were still within warranty and once they checked the phones, they swapped them out with refurbs without any issues.
