Here's the pickled crab apple recipe:
300 mL cider vinegar or white wine vinegar
400 g granulated sugar
25 g fresh root ginger, bruised
5 cm piece cinnamon stick
1 tsp allspice berries
1 tsp cloves
1 kg crab apples
Makes 2 x 680 g jars
Put all ingredients except crab apples in a large pan over a low heat, stirring until the sugar has dissolved, then bring to the boil. Turn down the heat to a simmer.
!!!!! crab apples all over with a needle or skewer (to prevent skins bursting).
Add to the hot vinegar and simmer until they are tender but not too soft. Remove with a slotted spoon and pack into warm, sterilised jars.
Bring the spiced vinegar syrup to the boil and boil for 5 minutes then strain it over the apples. Cover jars with vinegar-proof lids. Keep for at least a month before using. Eat within a year.

Different spices can be used - she suggests cardamom and coriander with a flake or two of dried chilli.Mortgage at highest (April 2008): ~£195,000

 Thanks GT and BW ...
Thanks BW ... I sorted out the bookshelves yesterday and now have a stack of 40+ books in the study, over 30 of which WBB don't want. Pondering my next move with them. A local 2nd hand book shop will give me a credit note or sell them for me and give me 20p per book (that's his standard rate whether it's trash fiction or literature). May ask my mum if she's doing another bootsale, I think I'd rather she had the cash!
Bookshelves are looking better though and I found several that I can't remember reading so I've got plenty to be going on with too ]
Really don't know what to do with our book stash at mo...can't seem to offload then at a reasonable amount of cash anywhere :-(BoDiddly

Awww Janey that is so sadHaving odd coloured eyes would be a reason for me to have taken the dog - love quirky animals
I hope you find a new furry member that is perfect for you

I agree, that's a pretty awful attitude. In truth he's obviously not pretty enough for them
But blue and brown eyes ... the collie is strong with this one, he'll be a fantastic boy as at 9 months you can still train him into your own! Fingers crossed that he's meant for you. xAlchemilla wrote: »No dog person turns down a dog for eye colour.
Poor baby.
Well, the stars must be aligned or something because we are going to pick him up on Saturday!!! We have seen pictures and are completely in love with him already :j:j:j
Can you believe that two separate families approached a rescue centre looking specifically for a small lurcher and then turned him down because of his eye colour?:mad::mad: I am in utter disbelief (but very glad that they did).
I'm going to get him an address disc and food bowl etc tomorrow but don't know how I'm going to wait until Saturday! I'll post pics when we get him in case I jinx something!"It is often said that before you die your life passes before your eyes. It is in fact true. It's called living." Hi all and thanks A*M
Been a little under par but surfacing again now. Have to have new meds but not sure they are compatible with others, will ask consultant next week.
Most of this week has been spent lurching between bed and desk to try to work to fill the coffers then back to bed again! Will try to catch up with all your kind comments and threads over the weekend!
I suspect AA challenge has gone a bit pants! xStash busting 2014 45 / 60 (balls of yarn)!

'yarn per project sorted' eh? Makes me giggle! Mine is also sorted, I'll have you know: cotton yarns in a bag. Fat wool in a box. Normal wool in another box. Don't do skinny wool. Odds and ends in another bag. All stored carefully on top of each other.
But sewing is the current activity of choice - bunnies galore!
Have a great day - hope Mr Hbbb isn't home too late. Did he go cycling? Any injuries to add to his tennis elbow?
Mr. Hbbb is home A*M and yes, he did cycle! Tennis elbow and cyclist knee now on the mend! :rotfl:
He brought me back a nice little box of continental chocs which I have used as my medicine this week!
I bow to your superiority when it comes to project organisation A*M ... mine goes bag, needles, yarn, pattern; another bag, needles, yarn, pattern; bag, crochet hook, yarn, idea in head ... etc!
I suspect bunnies are nearly all done by now? xStash busting 2014 45 / 60 (balls of yarn)!

Has he met your young lady yet or will they just have to muck in together and get on with it (in the manner of chook introductions)?

Hope you are feeling much better and that the continental chocs did the trick.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -

Your faith in me is great! Sorry - must confess that I have 'only' done 3 totally, completely finished ones. (but 2 finished hearts + 6 hearts that just need final stitching, if they count...). Am not counting bunnies in September's total, as they are for presents. I like a challenge.
I'm very lucky that dh has let me take over the dining table and 2 of its chairs for my piles of fabric, patterns, machine, plus the floor all around for my boxes, bags and not-yet-finished projects!
Glad Mr Hbbb is back. Are you sleeeping any better?
Boo to changing meds, with all the uncertainty and unsettledness that brings.
Was the box of chocs any good as medicine? If not, maybe you need to send Mr Hbbb to get you some otherboxes, as medical research of course.NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0
