Problems using new smartphone to view maps

just phoned orange call centre and they said internet and mms access is no longer automatically offered depends on contract (given I have text and data allocations in my contract why would I not want internet access and MMS?).
It now has to be set up separately but they can no longer tell you how to do this instead you have to look it up on the internet......so I asked if this involved a specific apn number assigned by Orange, as this was not referred to in the generic user guide supplied with the phone - and when I tried to configure this access all I kept getting was a message saying internet and mms cannot be downloaded.
Then I got put on hold and eventually someone came back and told me that I would get be sent two text messages to reply to with my pin no - (nnnn part of my phone number) for set up. Then got text messages telling me to open link on the text and enter pin. There is a page on their website which tells you how to do this but you have to search around for it.
Have now configured, now to see if it works..0 -
Good luck.
The text messaging to set up mms and APN is not that uncommon but it does sound as if the people you spoke to could have been more helpful.
As I said before if you are going to be playing around trying out apps do try and use wifi as your small allowance will disappear before you realise.0 -
MMS is not part of the data package though.
There maybe extra charges for sending and receiving picture messages. Use email instead and it will use your data allowance.
But with high res camera's being fitted to phones you need to be wary of the picture files you download. 50 x 4mb pictures and all your allowance has gone.
Have you updated all the apps, including the play store and the maps?
Do this at home on wifi with the data off.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Well I do not really know what is going on. I updated my access to MMS and the internet yesterday (3 December) by replying to the messages Orange sent, using my pin (as they advised.) Now my SMS seems to be screwed up - messages are all in random order. There is a message from Orange dated 27 November advising I am set up to use MMS and internet. This was not there before as I only got this activated yesterday......0

That message probably arrived within minutes of you putting the SIM in and switching it on. You normally need to open the message which installs the settings.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
