I cant stand ebay. Their fees are a complete rip off. I am looking in to alternatives, because ebay take at least 60% of my profits on every single item I sell. That annoys the hell out of me, and if you want any customer support just forget it.
I am looking at getting my own cart set up and then advertising in the local paper. It will cost more but then I will be able to charge a little bit more for my products. Trouble with ebay is that prices are driven so low on ebay, I doubt many people make a good living out of it. The only ones laughing to the bank are of course ebay.
The way I see it is the following. Ebay are not your only choice, and don't let them think you are.
If you say go into a retailer for a simple USB cable their prices are at least 70% more than the same thing on ebay, but my theory on this is if they are doing so badly how are they still in the business.0 -
Hmm... looks like the eBid thread is turning into an eBay gripe thread. It is hard work making a website pay, eBid is like having your own website. If it's a quick turnover and easy sales you're wanting then it's the eBay thread you'll be wanting to post in.
Soolin, the CEO's statement at the end of the first quarter quotes less than half of eBay's listings are auction items and they expect this to fall a great deal further by next year. They're making more from stores' buy nows and their other sources of revenue. Not sure what percentage is lost to fighting law suits but it seems to run into many $millions, so it isn't out of the question for them to license off the auction side of things. It's heavily marketed as a marketplace and not an online auction site. eBid sellers need to rely on sales from there at the moment but just in the off chance that their eBay outlet gets quashed, I'm sticking with eBid. It may only be a minute source of advertising that attracts a couple of sales now and again but it's better than having to run an ecommerce site.I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

If their taking %60 of your profits your doing something seriously wrong. I'd have a good look at you business paln and margins again.0 -

They'll be far more reasons than just that, Especially if you were banned 4 times before0 -
Hi Everyone........i've finally found the eBid thread again
(I read it a while ago, but have only just signed up)
Yep, I sell on eBid, as a hobbyist & fundraiser, but part of the pleasure is helping others to do exactly the same.
The ethos of the site is simple........a level playing field for all re: 1 username, feedback equality....the list is endless! A whole different ballgame to "the other side"!
There are a million and one threads on the eBid forum, how to make the most of the site, your listings, Google uploads etc. etc., & all the information is given freely.
okies, i'm going back to the beginning of the thread....I need a refresh on what's been discussed so far

Twenty-seven pages? You'll be here all weekend. Plus wading through all the aggro between the cheerleaders and the haters. Not that I mind that. I'm the one standing on the edge with popcorn going, 'Fight fight fight fight!'0

More Ebid sales today. Things seem to pick up on the weekend and slow down during the week, that's the only pattern I can see. Although I guess that's common to most sites: more time for browsing at the weekend.
Things do seem to have picked up a bit since the revamp. Or maybe it's that I've been tinkering with (some of) my listings and following the Ebid queens' (ByKimbo et al) edicts for successful Ebid selling. Wish I had more time to do that.0 -
I am banned by ebay so am going to try ebid. I'm not sure that 'ebid is full of ebay rejects' is an impression that ebid regulars like to see.
I'm not saying ebid's only got ebay-banneds on there, just that that's the only place for them to go (except for PriceMinister ). After all, if you can't manage on ebay, you've got !!!! all chance of surviving on Amazon.Back on MSE after a 5 year hiatus.
