It is possible to sign up on eBid as a basic BRONZE level (buyer only) then upgrade to SILVER level (seller) with ZERO cost.
Silver level users can run basic auctions with ZERO fees unless the item sells. When that happens there is a flat rate 3% final value fee.
It is only if the user chooses to move on from "casual seller" status to "regular seller" that an upgrade to PLATINUM level is recommended. Even then the user can subscribe for various lengths of time at various costs depending on subscription length. The voluntary £100 fee is a one off payment for a lifetime subscription at PLATINUM level.

Errrr.... My Facts are spot on - I am well aware of Silver Membership - I am one.
However as I am finding to my cost its somewhat limited - I cannot List with either a GALLERY picture or A Buy It Now Price as a Silver Member which quite frankly Sucks Eggs. Why would I list on Ebid with those limitations when I could go to Tazbar which offers those features for free ?
As for Voluntary - Plat membership is pretty much Compulsary if you want Gallery, BIN, Checkout, Paypal, scheduling, Stores etc - in fact all the features listed at the start of this thread.
So imho I am wasting my time even trying to list for free as a Silver because my auctions will be outclassed by anyone listing as Plat. And for 10 items I am not paying £8/month - £100/year upfront just to see if they sell.

Have you tried selling on Tazbar? I'd be interested to read your experiences.
From what I hear the sellers there are finding it even more difficult to attract customers even with the "free" features in the auctions.moneysaver100 wrote: »As for Voluntary - Plat membership is pretty much Compulsary if you want Gallery, BIN, Checkout, Paypal, scheduling, Stores etc - in fact all the features listed at the start of this thread.
Your post stated that people had no choice "Lets not forget you will have paid a joining fee upfront of up to £100..." so my point here is that your post was incorrect. The choice of upgrading is left to the seller, unlike on other sites who give no choice at all. Sellers on eBid have the option to make use of the available resources at a cost suitable to their level as a seller.moneysaver100 wrote: »And for 10 items I am not paying £8/month - £100/year upfront just to see if they sell.
Sux !
Again, your information incorrect. The highest level cost of a PLATINUM membership is for LIFETIME. It is a ONE OFF PAYMENT. It is NOT paid every year. Why Pay High Fees
on eBay when there ARE alternative sites available?0 -

Yeah sorry - I got the £100 mixed up with the £60 annual cost.
You have a heck of a defensive attitude about Ebid if you dont mind me saying - if the rest of you are like this I will steer clear.
I was going to give this site a try but thanks for successfully putting me off - I will stick with Ebay.0 -

What you call a "defensive attitude" I class as a desire for accurate information. So far I have merely corrected your mistakes and supplied accurate information on the topic under discussion. I'm sorry if such a desire for accuracy puts you off another site, it was not my intention.
If you should find yourself back on eBid, feel free to drop into the forums there with any questions. eBid users will be only too happy to provide information relating to the site, as well as hints 'n' tips on how to improve sales. Why Pay High Fees

Hi there.
Silver membership doesn't have as many selling features as platinum- what you do get is shown on the table on post 1. As EBID need to sell platinum meberships to generate revenue there will always be more features available for those you've paid the premium. However there is good news for silver sellers too- Following similar comments on ebids own forums I understand there are plans to allow gallery and some other options for silver users.
With regards to Tazbar. If you have a lot of experience selling there, why not start a thread similar to this? There is no such word as "bidded". I bid, you bid, they bid, Ebid0 -

Still I am pleased that you seem to be selling so well already - since I know from past experience how slow sales can be on that site !
Before we start screaming FEE SAVINGS - Lets not forget you will have paid a joining fee upfront of up to £100 and you need to take that into consideration.
Also you need to consider whether you are getting the best price for your item - with so little traffic Ebid does not drive a "Auction Economy" as such and so you will be lucky to get a single bid .
It will take a LOT of sales - MARGIN PROFIT - not Sales Turnover before you recoup that £100....... As any Money Saver will tell you.
Still now the site is back up I will get listing and see what happens.
Hello, Sorry if you thought I was promoting ebid, that wasn't what I was doing:p, as I've said before, I use both sites! I am entitled to 'scream fee savings' as I am in fact a silver member not platinum, so I haven't paid any subscription yet, so therefore I haven't needed to 'recoup that £100', but it is definitely something I will do in the future (as for recouping the fee, I'll be able to do that gradually with the 3% saving on FVF's) I have made about £30 more than the same amount of items sold on ebay, but it did take a little longer. I don't mind not having the gallery access at the moment, I don't think I am being dwarfed by the gallery listings (I'll let my sales speak for themselves on that one).
Good luck on your listing, it can take a little getting used to if your used to a different format, but doesn't take too long. :beer:0 -

Hi Rabbit - I agree 100% Ebay Fees are nuts - To list my 10 items with no Gallery would have cost me 50p-£1 up front - then there are the relisting fees. So thinking Long Term its pretty neat being able to list and leave them forever until they sell with no Relisting Fees.
In fact I would say thats probably the best way to Sell Ebid to noobies - NO RELISTING FEES !!!
Very pleased you are doing so well and you have already sold 34 items and have bids on 20 more - brilliant. If I do as well I will be well pleased.
Couple of questions for you -
How long have you been on Ebid ?
How many items do you have listed ?
And is there a quicker way of doing it - took me quite a while to do my 10 probably because I am not used to the format ?
How many do you list and how long does it take you ?
Tnx for all the help.0 -

Hi,
Q1) I joined in 2006 (can't remember the month:rolleyes: ), but i only started listing about a month ago.
Q2) I have about 140 auctions at the moment
Q 3+4) I listed them all within about 2 hours, what I did was copy & paste from my word document which I have set with one template. I copied it onto the WYSIWYG format on ebid (what you see is what you get), and changed the relevant bits for each auction. Once I get platinum I may do the bulk upload, but I suppose if you have the ebay turbo lister, you could copy & paste from that?
Also, I have set up my 'defaults' and each time I list I 'populate it'.
Hope this helps!0 -
Sometimes the 'list similar' link can be useful tooThere is no such word as "bidded". I bid, you bid, they bid, Ebid0
