Good point! At some stage, I'm going to have to do a blog post on them. Several blog posts ...2023: the year I get to buy a car0

I think this drip drip of pessimism can accumulate and lead to a loss of confidence. I'm not saying we should have masses of confidence in the global economy these days, but life usually goes on and I'm determined not to spend the next 5-10 years gloomy even if everything does decide to go for a crash.
I haven't really noticed more stories than usual, but when I scan online, there always seem to be a lot, and it can definitely affect attitude, its true. I really think there's a case for doing as much as we can to safeguard ourselves, and simultaneously getting on and living our lives. Being gloomy won't help.

The scenario - as presented - was:When the imaginary money is eventually stopped and investments are trashed, we can see that stocks are no good. The world will be in a depression, so commodity prices are no good. Company bonds will crash, and even funds will take a huge beating. Even cash is no good, because there'll be bail ins.
- which I went with. I feel it is plausible, but couldn't give you a probability of it happening.
The response to it of:edinburgher wrote: »You can't eat gold
doesn't really indicate you have any problem with the scenario. Responses to me ofedinburgher wrote: »Ah, being overly literal, the gift that keeps on giving.

don't either. It's curious as why the responses were emotional and not explanatory."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

It's curious as why the responses were emotional and not explanatory.
Probably because we have different personality types. I enjoy the back and forth of gentle banter and am emotional as an individual, you appear to enjoy essay level responses, quotes both historical and contemporary and the relentless pursuit of logic.

Ed, I love the fictional examples (Falling Skies, as you know, for instance) but unless there really is an alien invasion, I don't think there'll be a complete breakdown of civilisation.
The more I learned about the Solar system, the less seriously I took the threat of alien invasion. To be frank - why would you? If you want water, you go to Titan, if you want heat/light/power you go to Mercury. If you want a soulless pit, you go to Hull...If there *is* a complete b'down, frankly I doubt I'd last all that long - unless I get taken on board by some organisation that understands how wise and knowledgeable I am :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: like Dan Forrester in Lucifer's Hammer (Larry Niven - read it if you get the chance).
And Jerry! Don't forget Jerry...While I've been ill, for the first time ever, I've been reading free zombie books on my kindle :rotfl:some of them are even fairly well written, and I have to confess, I started laughing at them, and then examining the plot points ... that kind of end of the world is quite fun, like learning to steal cars in Grand Theft Auto (or so my niece says) ...
If you can, look at the background plot/scenario for the computer game "The Last of Us". It presents a whole new twist on it. There's various playthroughs on Youtube if that's your thing.
It's not a book, nor a film, but games are evolving into something between the two.If things go downhill far enough, I'm wondering if we'd regress to 100 years ago, pensions wouldn't be paid, wealth would be even more concentrated in the hands of the extremely wealthy as we heard from Davos today ... just starting to wonder, just this last week, if silver, at least, might not be a reasonable little investment.
Focus on what would provide benefit to you personally first. So that wood-burning stove of yours may be a better idea - but only if fitted.
You can't beat being warm and dry when it's cold and wet.My BOB, you'll be happy to know, gets me to a local hotel :j
