The P87 that was submitted was for the years (October)2012 up to April (2013), approx 7 months...........
I received a response direct from HMRC......advising that they had changed my tax tax code.
That is as it should be and is consistent with everything you have been toldThe only thing that is constant is change.0 -
Thanks zygurat789......
So the P87 I submit in April 2014 should be for 2013-2014? and only include mileage for Jan, Feb & Mar 14?0 -

Noooooo.......you put ALL your mileage for 6th April 2013 to 5th April 2014 on it.
You will also need to apportion the payments from your employer for the parts of the Aprils as I expect you get paid in full months or from a certain date in one month to a certain date in the next.
In other words, you need to match the payment to the miles for those few days.0 -
Thanks guys you have been most helpful......
I get my wages paid on the 10th of each month.......sometimes such a long wait but that is how my Company do it. I get paid for work done on the 1st day of each month up to the last....so a whole months work....paid on the 10th of the next month.
Like I said before I have approx 9000'ish miles so far....that is not including December 2013 miles...as I have not received my wage slip...that comes via email a few days after payday....then I will have to add miles done for Dec 13, Jan, Feb & March 14 to the 9000'ish.......blimey that will be over 10000 I think.....as my work load seems to be increasing each week.
I will try and do a rough calculation to date....then add the following months....before submitting in April.
Once again thank you guys....I am unconfused now0 -
In October 2013 my Total Gross pay was 2555.08, Gross for tax was 2051.93 and Expenses paid by my employer were 503.15.....
I did a lot of overtime and had to cover other people's holidays.....I am on a zero hour contract....and my manager has given me a pay rise 4 times since I started work....hopefully this month I am going to start my QCF Level 3 in Health & Social Care.
My manager has offered to give me more work....but includes traveling more....and I think I have more than enough doing what I am now.0 -
To save having to do it all in April, it's good to write your figures down somewhere each month as you go along, but I wouldn't bother with any calculations until you have all the figures.
The fact that you are paid such a long time after the end of the month pushes the payment of your March 2014 wages and expenses into the following tax year.
And the payment for your April 1st-5th expenses will not be till 10th May.
I am not sure what happens in those circumstances, will leave that to someone else to comment on.0 -
Thanks for that jenni....I will keep a note...and also keep updated on here as time goes on.
Thanks to all who have given me some very useful help.....0 -

I have been paid from my employer millage allowance a total of £3,884.00.
my calculation =
10,000 miles @ 45p + 6,887 miles @ 25p = £6,221.75
less paid by employer (£3,884.00) = £2,337.75
refund of tax at 20% = £467.55 (note you will need to have paid at least this much tax to get this much refunded)0
