A Bleak Christmas for Tesco ?

My only regret about aldi is that I didnt shop there 15 years ago. Theres an aldi and a lidl in my home town and the lidl is a bit grotty so it put me off aldi, but I have only tried one thing there I dont like, thats the soya milk.
Their wine is decent, they do a pimms copy for 5.99, a baileys copy for 5 quid. Their fruit juice is 89p a carton, the cat food I buy is 95p for 950g, go cat is twice that.
I like their tortilla wrap kits, their gnocchi. They do a super six every two weeks and you get cheap fruit and veg. They do a beer very similar to stella cheaply. They do limited edition ranges of food and other items.
They also do some branded items as well. Of course you save money, their goods might not be kellogs for example but if you buy their cornflakes, they'll be cheaper than the brands. Their crisps are also good quality. They do decent antipasti as well.
I do shop in home bargains too because some of their similar products they do even cheaper than aldi, but compared to tesco, I probably could get a comparable shop for about 3 quarters of the price, at least, possibly more savings
They do also do decent sized trolleys at my local aldi and your shopping goes through quickly, no standing for 10 mins in a queue
Theyve just opened their 500th store in the UK, I dont think the aldi bubble is going to burst anytime soon, my local aldi has been there 18 years this year
And in these tough times, Im not surprised their market share is rising.
I used to spend about 20 quid a week at least in Tesco, these days Im lucky if I spend 50 quid a year in there.0 -
Tesco needs a new boss.
It is always funny about the top guy ..It is a bit like a football manager ..some are winners some end up taking the team down .0 -
If Tesco's is in trouble then why is my local superstore always rammed full.
Utter nonsense.Pants0 -
I wish I had tried Aldi and Lidl years ago too.
I would like to have a Lidl in my town, we have two Aldi so it would be nice to have both. I like a lot of the half price meat offers in Lidl but only get them if I happen to somewhere where they have a store.0 -
I know, but why don't Tesco have the facility to order stock other than from Tesco Direct ?
Because then they would have two systems doing the same thing. It would not be worth doing it just for a few people who wanted to order items out of stock in store and use an in store voucher.0 -
Personally, I think the Aldi/Lidl thing is a fashion craze driven largely by novelty. I have tried both, several tines, and haven't been impressed. Life is too short to wander down cheerless aisles of stacked cardboard boxes clustered around bring 'n buy style tables with a random assortment of machine tools, tennis shoes, knock-off electrical goods and heaven knows what, all laid out as if a madman had done the job with a hand grenade. And then you're expected to sample your way through countless copy brands in the hope of finding something resembling the brand you have used for 20 years, all for the sake of saving 5p.
Tesco, on the other hand, has ruined its reputation by its meanness, predation, aggression, involvement with adulteration scandals and appallingly badly managed PR. Heads really need to roll, before there is serious trouble.
If all three vanished, I wouldn't shed a tear.0 -
What p*sses me off is the bogof con where they use rrp despite it hardly ever being sold at that price or if it was, anyone hardly ever buying.
Of course all the biggies are at it but Tesco are by far the worst culprits. I really wish that shoppers started wising up to Tescos misleading tactics but I don't think that will happen as people are just too stuck in their ways. The likes of Lidl and Aldi will only make a small dent but I live in hope.0 -
Well, I made one of my rare visits to Tesco on Saturday for a last minute purchase (I'm on a mission to avoid if possible) and it'll be the last time I venture in there before Christmas.
In fact, I've vowed to start off the New Year with as few supermarket shops as possible.
Can nobody control their children nowadays? Screaming children running up and down the aisles, half the parents too busy on mobile phones to even know what their little darlings are doing - helping themselves to biscuits, crashing into people, whilst the staff smile through gritted teeth and parents ignore the chaos.
I am seriously considering having my shopping delivered (not from Tesco) - it's become a nightmare in our local store, and with promises of something like 1,000 new homes just up the road it doesn't bear thinking about.0 -

Sounds like handforth deanThe only thing that is constant is change.0 -
we will find out the results after Christmas.
I will be interested to see the findings.
I do find this forum very pro-aldi. However I am not a fan. Just does not feel right to me.0
