BlueMoo, yes it was a bit more abrasive than I really liked, thanks for telling me and giving me the chance to edit it. Probably still is irritating to some but hopefully it's less so.
Black taxi, yes, those who overpay seem to have a really tight focus on budgeting. And for those who just don't like the risk of investing it really is the best way and one of the better things to do with money.
Yes, still irritating and some. Sorry, but which ever way you want to achieve your goal is up to you - Each to their own. Most Oper's have to work very hard to achieve their aims and are doing a very good job in managing their income and making it stretch in this time of job losses and huge increases above inflation bills - just like you.
By all means explain how you are going to achieve your aims and putting it in a diary format will encourage like minded and similar diarists to respond.
Surely by joining the challenge this year and setting a target, you would be achieving the same goal as everyone else on here and that is what counts - not how you have done it. JCL, only requires the following: your details and how much you choose to pay off by 31 Dec 14.
But personally this is a thread for all who are interested in OPing at their own pace and ability and using their money in which ever tax effective way they wish in the forth coming year. For instance, we are high rate tax payers and I still budget within an inch of my life because why waste money. I hope your detailed plan works out very well for you, as I hope everybody else's plans work out for them.:)
Have a lovely Christmas and New year to all OPer's.:beer:Mortgage: Aug 12 £114,984.74 - Jun 14 £94000.00 = Total Payments £20984.74

I think it's a great debate to have and I wish I'd seen it and explored it further many years ago. I would certainly have gone down that route at least partially. Not sure how pension funds would cope with 87p Tilly Tidies though .
Personally, my circumstances lead me to OP'ing as being best for me. But all those of you much younger (i.e. most of you) please do some investigation into other options rather than OPing till mortgage is cleared and then moving on to other things.
What is important though is to do something other than wading through all disposable income (and then some!) as it there's no tomorrow. Everyone on here is doing something and that is great :T.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0
