A Singularly Lonely Christmas

We haven't had any appropriate song lyrics for a few days...I was lying in my bubbles listening to the Beautiful South and heard a new song to me "I'll sail this ship alone".
All the lyrics are appropriate to me, but I thought the chorus of sailing between sharks and treasure was particularly appropriate to this thread for singlies
I've thoroughly enjoyed listening to this CD (bargain bucket buy months ago), and must confess to a wee bop around the living room tonight

Evening everyone.
Cooking-I was never really much of a cook. Two things changed that. I wanted to lose weight and I had pnuemonia. I believe that food and health are related and have read a bit on the subject. After the pnuemonia (this sounds crazy by the way) I knew I couldn't eat cold foods but needed hot spicy things. I looked up what the benefits of various spices and herbs were and made curries and chillies. Turmeric was an important one. I'm quite sure this helped in my recovery. Plus I need to lose some weight so trying to cook healthier meals. It's the love of chocolate that scuppers things a bit.
I tend to panic if anything goes wrong in the house. The worse was when my radiator sprung a large leak all over the bedroom. I know how to re pressurise the boiler so I've managed that a few times.

I've watched splash tonight, just to ogle at Tom Daley in the nearly nothing trunks . Just switched over to the Voice just because there's not much else on.
Has anyone made their own room fragrancers with the reed sticks? They are very expensive to buy and I have some empty jars from ones I bought and are now empty.
Did some gardening this afternoon, it was really lovely in the sunshine, i even sat out with a glass of squash it was so warm.
Despite all the rain we've had this week, the ground wasn't as wet as I expected. It was a bit sad being out there without the hens. Normally they would have been scratching around and sitting on the clod of earth as I'm trying to lift it!
House is also clean now, so will just do my ironing in the morning, do my roots (hair) and then go to Aldi at 10 when they open.
Tom Daley, eh?
I have a reed stick fragrancer coming to the end of it's stuff, so I'd be interested. I don't suppose it matters if the sticks already have a fragrance on them.
Sorry you missed your girls.0 -
I found this quote and thought it was quite apt so wanted to share:
People vary tremendously in just how much time they like to spend with other people, and how much time they like to spend alone. Everyone, though, wants some of both. Loneliness and solitude are two very different things — we can be lonely among others, and we may crave being alone, but not be lonely at all.

Have just read whole thread at one sitting-all evening! Very uplifting and a great source of support to single people-I'm one, too. Will hope this thread continues in some form.In answer to the reed diffuser question-yes,you can re-use them.I've done this before using aromatherapy oils diluted in water. The fragrance will not probably last as long, and I would say choose an oil that is close to the original fragrance eg lemon or lavender etc. Just fill original container with diluted oil-5 drops to 10ml of water works best I've found-and put reeds in.:)We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.Oscar Wilde xxx:A0

Found this thread a couple of days ago, and have plodded my way through it a bit at a time, watching as it seemed to change from "A Singularly Lonely Christmas" to "A Singularly Lovely Christmas".
What a friendly, helpful thread it is, too.
I spent most of the break on my own, but was very content to do so. A big family get together, with the potential for sulking teenagers, over-tired infants, stressed-out hosts and squabbling in-laws is my idea of hell on wheels.
So there was no enforced seasonal merriment for me - just the full range of iPlayer at my beck and call, food which I wanted to eat when I wanted to eat it, and a peaceful harmonious atmosphere at all times. Bliss!
On Boxing Day I went for my usual walk, and everywhere was full of men with children and dogs - presumably a lot of mothers had ordered them out from under their feet. One poor young man had a baby strapped to his back, a rebellious toddler who didn't want to be in his pushchair and was busily undoing the straps, a little girl who had to be restrained from showing off and running into the traffic, and a large (but fortunately very placid) dog tied to the pushchair. He was just about coping until the dog sat down to poo on the pavement, at which point he didn't have enough hands to do everything and was in serious danger of having the baby topple out of the sling on his back, while the other two children escaped. He just about managed without losing any of his offspring (or the dog), but I don't suppose he got much sympathy when he got home, if mother is the usual carer in that family!
A belated happy new year to everyone - may 2014 bring you many good things, and may all your resolutions prove easy to keep.e cineribus resurgam("From the ashes I shall arise.")0 -

Oh now – don’t get me started on songs/lyrics, these are very dependent on your mood - never figured how to do the link thing but you can find them all on u tube –
Some of my “go to” favourites for coming to terms with/getting rid of those feelings =
Bob Segar and the Silver Bullet Band – “Against the Wind”
Norah Jones – “Lonestar”
Rainbow – “Catch the rainbow”
Gary Moore – “Further on up the road”
Linda Ronstadt – “You took advantage of me”
But definitely not for the faint-hearted is Gary Moore – “Still got the blues”Jan - June Grocery spends = £531.61

That is a good movie - hope you enjoy it
