Me too - as if I'm all topped up and can't accommodate any more input. Some of it is to do with the intensity of listening (hearing impairment, it gets tiring), but also I'm an introvert so I get my energy restored mainly by solitude, whereas extroverts get their energy topped up by being with other people. I guess we're all somewhere on the spectrum between fully one or t'other, and will have our own balance to maintain.
So, for example today I stayed slightly too long at the coffee drop-in and needed the afternoon sitting peacefully to recover!
Byatt, re tough to open jars, you need to buy a jarkey- I bought mine from Amazon, not expensive. It enables you to break the vacuum on lids without destroying the lid or stabbing your hand! Yes I've done that too!!If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

I didn't remember to buy it, but today's Guardian (and hopefully tomorrow's Observer) feature a new monthly magazine with simple ideas to "Just Do Something". The promise is that none of them will be earth-shatteringly expensive. I'll go to the supermarket for a skim read tomorrow morning and will buy if it looks promising.
Re the physical comfort of cuddles, that's what the cats supply... on their own terms, of course... one is a lap cat, one sits on my chest in bed first thing in the morning, and the other is a will-o-the-wisp, a catch-me-if-you-can, and just occasionally drapes herself on top of me during the night... a rare treat, till I move my cramped legs and then she's off again. If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

I really think that is so true0 -

Yes is really is poor. I'm currently watching Lost on dvd as treated myself to the boxset for Xmas when I saw it on offer that was too good to resistNeed2bthrifty wrote: »Havent checked the tv listings yet but think I will watch a dvd I've been saving - The Blind Side (Sandra Bullock)
That is a good movie - hope you enjoy it0 -
Bookworm, when I became single again (even though DD was at home she didn't like my cooking) I actually stopped cooking for about 2 years. I just heated up in the MW or shoved in the oven...then for another 6-7 years I just did the basic, but in the last year have started cooking from scratch again. I enjoy food but also have gastric problems which means I can feel nauseous and something I've prepared earlier, just doesn't have the appeal. Some days I can eat quite happily and enjoy it. Mostly I cook traditional food, such as roast dinners, cottage pie (I use soy mince), egg and chips! And my stand by for when I have no appetite are beans on toast, or just beans sometimes. Like LB, I can eat the same meal for days, it doesn't bother me. I'm only just starting to freeze extra portions.
I love beans on toast0 -
I made a soup earlier (all this talk of soups), carrot and lentil, I couldn't get the lid of the jar of the coriander, that's another thing, not having someone who can strong arm a jar or two! I have the jar thingy that's supposed to help, but doesn't always, I've run hot water over it, and the only other thing is to stab the lid with a knife
what I do with stubborn lids is lay the jar on its side - on a chopping board to protect the worktop, get the rolling pin and just give it a little whack on the side of the lid.Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0 -
Thanks Spirit, I don't have a rolling pin but as I need one, will give that a try also.
BW, the beans have to be Bran$tons for me0 -
I've watched splash tonight, just to ogle at Tom Daley in the nearly nothing trunks . Just switched over to the Voice just because there's not much else on.
Has anyone made their own room fragrancers with the reed sticks? They are very expensive to buy and I have some empty jars from ones I bought and are now empty.
Did some gardening this afternoon, it was really lovely in the sunshine, i even sat out with a glass of squash it was so warm.
Despite all the rain we've had this week, the ground wasn't as wet as I expected. It was a bit sad being out there without the hens. Normally they would have been scratching around and sitting on the clod of earth as I'm trying to lift it!
House is also clean now, so will just do my ironing in the morning, do my roots (hair) and then go to Aldi at 10 when they open.Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0
