EE Free SIM Con trick
Options
I took up the MSE blagged one month 4G data and SIM offer. What a con trick!
Connected my iPhone to try the service this morning intending to try the service up to and over Christmas. Fairly poor connection. Loaded EE app and created a login.
Noticed in the docs that they wanted 30 days notice to cancel so thought I should cancel to ensure they didn't roll over into a second month.
Called EE - waited 20 mins for them to answer the phone (this on the 'retentions' line too!). Explained situation. 5 mins later, my connection was terminated. So much for 1 month /5GB data free!
To add insult to injury, I just saw a £2 charge on my credit card for the 'free' SIM.
You can't even email EE to complain - it's 150 from an EE phone (which they cut off), or a mobile number which I'm not prepared to pay for. I've posted a letter to complain but don't have much anticipation of any response.
I'm about to carry out a review of my company contracts - the SIM was a way of checking coverage in office and various home addresses - what a great way to lose the business before they've even begun.
What a rip off...

That is a breach of Regulation 6(1)(c) of the Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002.
Hmm - well I did look all over the Contact Us page - call from mobile/landline/abroad or write to... no email address anywhere. If anyone finds one, let me know.
I sent them copy of this post via Facebook message...0 -

The person you spoke to has probably messed up by terminating it early. But you can hardly call it "a rip off" when you clearly only took the SIM with the intention of using it for the free trial and cancelling.
OK it cost you £2 but that's hardly the end of the world.
Just let it go, it's not worth the time and energy spent complaining about.0 -
Why not tell your card provider that you didn't authorise the transaction?0

Thanks all for your thoughts and comments. Well it's a rip-off in respect of I did not receive the offer I had signed up for. Even if I was using it as a trial (actually to sus out the coverage and speed at home, work and staff home locations) prior to reviewing company phone contracts, I ought to have received what I thought I had been offered and agreed to. MSE advised trying it for a month and cancelling - see here:
Free 4G mobile broadband Sim with 5GB. ENDS THU. MSE Blagged. Great for tablet/mobile data. 1. Month 1 free, then you can cancel. Use code EESIM10 at this EE* link (standard or micro Sims) or this EE* link (nano Sims). You get 5GB/mth data (usually £21/mth) free for a month - you can use, then cancel. 2. Then £11/mth plus £11 vch. Keep going & it's £11/mth for a year - the cheapest 4G for this much GB - plus you get £11 Amazon voucher. See: EE Sims
No, £2 is not a lot of money but there is a principle at stake - if something is advertised as free, you ought not to charge for it. Yes, I am sure it is an honest mistake somewhere in the system. No, it isn't worth my time complaining but I think corporates should abide by their offers. Yes, I did pass the info back to MSE.
Incidentally, since posting this on EE's Facebook site, they have been in contact to investigate, so that's a useful option...

The £2 will have been deducted to ensure it's an active account ...it then gets credited back to the account once it's been checked so you should have £2 showing as refund to the account
