Hi, can i join in? i've had a bento box for a while but the lid is raised off the top shelf so things are a little unstable, and the bottom unit is too big really. so i've been looking for one with a better arrangement and have seen nice, cute and sensibly arranged ones in paperchase. they are about 5quid each. compared to the cute ones on ebay that seems ok. does anyone have a better source? before i go and buy the 'happy noodle' bento for 5.00 next wed??

also, i looked at the ebay and paperchase specialist cutlery, and decided it would be useful but it's overpriced 4.50 to nearly 15!!. a quick trip to poundland got me a metal and plastic tigger set! bargain!

oh and Arkonite-babe - i did vote for you, but honestly because yours was the most inspiring!

I love the Paperchase happy noodle bento box!! It's so cute :)
There is a list of companies who will ship bento gear to the UK or who are in the UK and stock bento items over on my blog.( Link is in my profile ;) )

Oh and I found that my local Mr Tesco has packs of a small plastic fork and spoon that are perfect for bento and only £1 too. Another good source is the baby aisles believe it or not! Small cups with lids work well for bento as does the kiddie cutlery! I suppose the small lidded cups are designed for left over babyfood or for travel? Poundland is a brilliant source for things too, especially the silicone bakeware.

um, yes the tigger spoon and fork were for toddlers, but they worked very well today with my little indian Tiffin Tin. I had onion rice in bottom, & brocoli, mushroom and sliced sausage with gerkin dressing in the top layer. All leftovers, and very tasty and healthy if sounding a little odd! My OH really didnt get why i was so chuffed at the cutlerly, even though i'd saved myself 4pounds over paperchase's prices... untill i told him they were blunt so wouldnt hurt anything in my handbag if they escaped. then he understood!! :D

i've some of those little silicone muffin cases and dont use them much, but now you've said that, they would work really well to take jelly or sticky rice or many other things too i think! thanks!! :T

when you start to bento, you end up looking at a lot of items in a very different way! You think "Can I use that up in a bento?" Honest :D

hi, well i caved and bought the Paperchase Happy Noodle bento - and I'm glad i did. It's so cute and compact but i think it will hold enough for me.

Leftover white rice, hot garlic sauce, chinease preserved cabbage, leftover balti chicken, cucumber and raw brocoli. Tigger cutlerly from Poundland. I'm really looking forward to lunch now! :D

Here's a recent lunch box. Sushi was homemade as was the spring roll (DD is gluten/wheat free so spring roll wrapper was made from rice paper wrapper) Served with Soy Sauce and Sweet Chilli sauce.

    wow

where can i find some easy instructions for making sushi? and what equipment do i need?

i usually only buy it when reduced but would love to have a go,

i need to lose weight and these bento lunches seem the way to go...

can someone point me in the right direction for basic beginners recipes and instructions?
