Oh wow, I'd never heard of bento lunchboxes before! I'm really inspired by all you guys. As I'm now really bored of taking cheese sandwiches to work I might try and give a bento box a go. It'll probably involve a little more forward planning than my cheese sandwich though! Right I'm off to look at some blogsMortgage-free wannabe 2025 £571/30000

Even cheese sandwiches can be interesting for bento
Go look at one of my friends blogs for inspiration

I think this would be great for my little girl starting school in September. She's a fussy little madam with food. She's been ill for a bit so needs encouragement to eat. She hates sandwiches and when she went to try out school dinners was mega unimpressed so I've been looking for inspiration.
I will look through the rest of the thread for ideas but would appreciate some help in getting started with what to buy.0 -

I really like the sound of the savory puff pastry tartlets so may give them a go next week!Mortgage-free wannabe 2025 £571/30000 -

A very simple box with a tight sealing lid, something like a lock & lock or one of the klippit boxes, that's all you need to get started
Bonus items if you have them are; cookie cutters and craft punches. If you don't have these they are by no means essential.
I have a perfect sized lock and lock with removable dividers. I will look to see what the model number is on the bottom for you. It only cost me £2.99 so it didn't break the bank.0 -
 How have I missed this thread? I love bento!
I made it a lot last year, but gradually stopped making it due to a lack of inspiration and the fact that the colleagues I lunched with just ridiculed it all the time  . (Around the same time I stopped lunching with them.)
But now I'm back, and loving it again. :j My manager can never wait to see what I've got in there (she's a Hello Kitty fan and loves anything cute/japanese-y)
I've posted pics of the ones I have made just recently on my blog, and hope to get back into updating it regularly.
Latest find - sushi ginger in my local Mr T's. I love that stuff. Have only been able to get it with sushi before now, but I don't like the nori everything is wrapped in, so have done without.

You can make bento with normal western food, doesn't have to be sushi
Bento is great for portion control!0 -
I really fancy giving it a try.
Today at lunch did starshaped sandwiches, chopped fruit, crisps, yogurt and grated cheese.
Fallen in love with hello kitty stuff.
which bento best single, double or triple.
Do you think this is a good start
hello kitty cookie cutter can make biscuit or use for sandwiches
hello kitty egg shaper
hello kitty muffin mould could try jelly I guess also
silcone hello kitty container for fruit
hello kitty pot with lid for yogurt.
Would that be cool start.
sorry sound dense too but whats teh detailing in most of sandwiches looks like marzipan.
Also the grass is fake not edible.
where do they keep drinks inside or outside wondering if small carton would fit.
We all need portion control for sure.
kids i overestimate they not overweight and me and hubby need to lose few pounds.
Ohh man question anyones bloke quite fond of this ideas as seems bit girly.
Found laptop lunchbox looks bit more manly but as for shaped/charcter things you skip.
Also thinking, bear, rabbit theme.
Could make little pancakes as have heart saucepan.
