Debranding Confusion!!!!

Hi i have a newish orange PAYG W810i that i recently had unlocked so i could use my O2 contract sim. Obviously i now want to get rid of Oranges horrible menus too, so ive been looking into using wotanserver to do this. I sort of understand the procedure but there several things i just dont get! In particular about firmware and what information you need before the debrand process eg - CID, CDA etc...Anyway here are all my issues:

1) Does the debranding process also include upgrading the phones firmware at the same time is or is this a seperate process? And is it neccesary anyway? Should sony ericcsons SEUS be used instead?

2) What CID is my phone - how do i find out? Is there a function on my fone that will tell me?

According to the wotanserver help CID is:
CID means Certificate identification. The phones EROM CID must match the firmware CID example:-
My phone is EROM CID 51 therefore i must choose a firmware with CID 51 after it, like RA6B001 CID 51.
If your phone is CID 49 then you can either choose a firmware which has CID 49 after it, or you can upgrade your CID then choose a CID 51 firmware.

3) Likewise what CDA is my phone? & how do I find that out? Do i keep it the same CDA during the debrand procedure

According to the wotanserver help CDA is:

The CDA number of your phone corresponds to the language group installed.
By changing the CDA you are able to flash different languages into your phone, this is done automatically by our software to make it easier for the customer

4) What are the chances of frying my phone!!

Thanks in advance

How to debrand your Sony Ericsson phone.

wotan will auto select the latest F/W for the w810i (R4EA031). so you upgrade the phone and debrand it at the same time.

the CDA string basically tells the sony ericsson update service what firmware your phone has (eg if it is orange branded or unbranded) and what to flash to it. wotan will change the CDA string to whatever region you choose

you dont need to worry about the CID as all w810i's are CID49. some k800i's/w850i's are cid 49, most new ones are either CID51/52.

i have flashed 2 w810i's using wotanserver, both work fine. i have also flashed a k750i to w800i and back to a k750i again without bricking it using other software

Many thanks gaming_guy :T that is more or less what i wanted to know.
So it looks like i dont need to worry about firmware or CID then, but what CDA string should i select when i get to that stage?

Also i had read your guide previously, i i tend to use as a guide when i finally do get down to doing it.

you just need to make sure you select generic uk.

the generic uk selection bit contains the cda string, the languages allowed etc

i can post an example of the custom pack for a w800i if you want

another name for a cust. pack is the finalization file. it also contains security certificates as well (and the files that create the web/wap links in the file manager)

anyway here is the w800i customize.xml as promised

You can use phoneXS or XS++ I used these to debrand my k610i.

BUT you will have to get the firmware yourself.

So what exactly do custom packs do then??

wotan will write the custom pack (only if you tick finalize) to your phone for you in the debranding process.

i have used xs++ to upgrade a k750i to a w800i but i only flashed the main firmware so i didnt have to use the SEFP and far method to upload the custom pack

Many thanks yet again gaming_guy, it starting to make a bit more sense now...

One final (i hope) question, I see that you need to install the usbflashdriver.exe provided by wotanserver in order for the debrand to work. Is this the same as the USB Cable Driver thats on the Sony Ericsson PC suite CD included with the phone?

If they are two different things does it make any odds if the SE PC suite software (and any drivers) from the suite is already installed on the PC im going to use.

P.s. sorry for being pedantic, just want to make sure i understand it all! :o
