So you're teaching them that if there's something they can't be bothererd doing, they don't have to do it?

Slightly OT but this reminds me of the one and only time I did cross country in school in the pouring rain. Our monstrous gym teacher would drive past periodically shouting abuse, and when I finally rolled in last but one, highly traumatised, my fingers were so blue with cold that I had to get someone else to unbutton my gym skirt so I could undress to go in the showers to warm up.
To the op, I don't see any reason really why you shouldn't send him, depends on his age I guess - you're his mum, you know best.
JxxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -
I think you should send him. It's not just about the sports day but teaching him that he has a part to play and just because he's not keen on doing something doesn't mean he should just quit. Life isn't like that and it's a good lesson to learn now I think.0

Being a child of the 70's we weren't phazed by rain! Kids these days are molly coddled. No wonder they are always ill!
Rain, cold, snow - all good for kids and childhood illnesses!0 -
If the school has told him he has to go then you should back them up and send him regardless. Kids need to know that parents and school are singing from the same hymn sheet otherwise they can try to play one off against the other.
You're not seriously considering keeping him away just because it's raining, are you?0 -
Who says that the OP is referring to the weather? I think its more the arrogant attitude of the school, they think they have the right to tell the child that he has to be take part in an event out of school hours?? How on earth do they think they have the right to do this??
When on earth did school sports days start being done after school??
And to every one who jumped on the OP's back about their parenting skills....

Hang on a minute. Last week the school saw fit to cancel sports day (night?) because it was raining and it was convenient for them to do so. This week it's raining but it's not convenient for them to cancel it so they have ruled that come hell or high water all children must attend OUT SIDE school hours, no matter what else might be going on in the family as a whole. Hypocritical?
Sorry but my children attend school from 8.50am to 3.15pm Monday to Friday. I expect my children to follow school rules and do as instructed by teachers in those hours. Anything outside those hours are optional IMO.0 -
I guess it was cancelled first time around because they knew some parents get a little concerned about exposing children to rain! Or perhaps so they don't incomvenience parents any more?
If it was inconvenient because parents had something else planned then fair enough.
The OP is talking about the weather and that is no reason to not attend imo.0
