Where do I stand with this?

I've volunteered myself for help with a charity who will look for me a job. I told them that I would take anything so as long as it is not production line work (because it makes me suicidal) and so as long as it is not nights (because they make me depressed - worse during the winter). They said that is fine and they won't make me do anything that they don't want me to do.
They phoned me up today and found me a packing job interview in a factory but it is nights. I'm okay doing this job but I cannot handle the night shift. I've done it before and it affects me in many ways including loss of appetite and feeling depressed. So I avoid nights. Sleeping through the day is going to be a nightmare because I live on a very busy road and I cannot sleep with things in my ears to block out the sound.
I refused the job interview on these grounds but I said if you can get me on a day shift I would be more than happy to take it. They said that it is nights only and they quickly put the phone down.
I'm worried that the job centre will hear of this (they and the JC work togther) and I will be sanctioned for not accepting the job interview.
I wouldn't expect anyone to do a job that I wouldn't do. If I took that job on I would not last very long, and I would probably go on the sick straight away, which is what happened last time I was forced to take night shifts.
So was I right in refusing it? You might not think so but you don't know how badly working through the night hours affects my mood and well being.

You sound a bit wimpy. I'd be more depressed sat around on benefits than I would working nights.
To answer your question, no I don't think you were right in refusing it. I think it's ridiculous given how many people would kill for that opportunity right now.0 -

Sounds like you've never had depression. Troll. I know plenty of people who cannot work nights but who are also unemployed. Are they also wimpy? I don't think so. Try again. Also I am not depressed and unemployed. I'm just unemployed.0 -
