OS Daily Friday 29th November

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good Morning TTFTM and all who follow, woke up quite early this morning,no reason but just was wide awake.I'm not one who can just lie-in as I can always think of 101 things to do,so up I got and made a cuppa. My washing machine is on doing the wash and I am hoping to get it on the line before I do the school run.
Lots of wrapping to be done today to get the Christmas stuff wrapped and bagged up .I have one big sack for one lots of grandchildren and one for the other.Once wrappped and in the black sacks I can relax about any spare grandchildren who may just 'pop-in' .:):)
History club this afternoon which I always enjoy.Tomorrow morning the W.I. have their Christmas Fair and I'm going to that as there is always something nice to buy there.
Hope you all have a good day,it doesn't seem quite as cold this morning
    Cheers chums

  • Good morning everyone :)

I feel awful with this cold/virus/whatever but am determined to clear it this weekend.

Molly - all I can offer you is virtual friendship, love and hugs and the support that a thread like this gives. It's not enough with the time you have had of it lately but you know we will all be here for you when you need us. I think I have told you before that I have never actually met another person who has the same genetic condition as me, I joined an online group but did not find it helpful but this thread really makes a difference to me when I have bad days/weeks. I hope we can do that for you x

nmlc - that is awful about the car and the fact that it seems to be common practice :(

LW - I hope we hear all about new arrival later

Better get ready and get some motivation for work, ugh.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for anyone who needs or just wants them. Keep well, warm and safe and have a super day :)

Am pleased to report that I've never even tasted it!

So, another day and another dollar.

Am still so very tired despite a good night's sleep and I'm not going to have the chance to nap today:

    1. Make vegetable stock (oven/slow cooker).
    2. Tend plants (morning and late afternoon).
    3. Deliver M's hospital letter to her GP.
    4. Go to hospital appt.
    5. Buy allergy spray.
    6. Transfer food to chest freezer (after 3pm).

Dinner tonight is pizza and salad followed by banoffee pudding. Because it's Friday and I deserve it.

Hope everyone else has a good OS day :)

Morning all!!! Don't always post but have loads to do so will use my post to keep me on track!!

Washing machine just finished its 3rd load this morning, as I've been up a while!! Have knitted some more of sons Christmas scarf, I'm not a fast knitter, so takes a while!!

Today I have to get children off to school, take some rubbish to the tip, get cat litter. Then home and load up OHs van with the bits and pieces for the school Christmas fair taking place on Sunday. Quick haircut, as am in desperate need!! Then on to cleaning house before parents arrive. Need to change beds and children have helped ?? By having wet beds each night for the last few days. Argh!! I have meals to prepare so its easy for Mum, as it's not easy for me with one child with autism and ADHD. Then I have to help set up the fair tonight and then off to a fair where I have a stall.

Tomorrow it's on to a 4 hr fair and then a fashion show in the evening. No rest for the wicked,
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

    Morning all,

Thank you for all the good wishes for DD yesterday she had a lovely day and got very spoilt, including a huge bunch of flowers from an admirer :heartsmil oh to be that young !

Still feel rotten here, have got some stuff from the chemist so have been taking that, hope it starts to work today.

This morning I have a load of office work to do, so I shall lock myself in the study for the morning, at least I get paid for it. This afternoon depending on how i feel I might go for a wander around the shops with my sister.

Dinner tonight is chilli and wraps with sour crean and rice, nice dinner.

Need to do a wash today as well.

    Molly hugs to you xx

    Have good days all xx

    Good Morning,

I've been AWOL for a few days as we had the in-laws staying. They are lovely but a lot of work! I've never known people drink soooo much tea :o

Had a shock last night, some thieving little **** has nicked all my clubcard vouchers  I checked my account last week after someone here mentioned they'd had the same problem and I noticed that one of my vouchers had been spent online so I reported it but Tesco told me it was a mistake and the voucher would be credited.

Now a week later I go to order DHs Christmas present and all the £100+ has been spent in Wales, I've never even been to Wales :(:mad: So someone is living the highlife on my saved up vouchers, I had been saving them for Christmas to buy presents for DH and Frog. I'm now waiting for the helpline to open so I can call and cry down the phone at them :o

We are off to the shopping centre today to get the last of our Christmas shopping done, hopefully might even pick up a Black Friday deal too.

We are having a well earned takeaway tonight for dinner, not sure what yet though, Frog will be having HM chicken burgers and veg.

Hope everyone has a good day xx

    Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Just now getting light, looks cloudy and overcast, fog has lifted thankfully as late last night it was really foggy here.

DH up and getting ready for work, normal time start.

Dinner last night was egg, bacon, sausages, beans etc. Wasn't the sort of dinner I really wanted to serve but this week's been a bit of a nightmare so just wanted to do something quick that I didn't need to think about too much. Haven't a clue what we're eating tonight but it won't be anything that takes too much application from me - just going to do a bung in the oven type dinner, will organise when I do food shopping later.

It never rains but if pours - got a phone call from DS1 yesterday afternoon to say he'd had a tumble off his motorbike - luckily a good samaritan had stopped his van and helped, he turned DS1's bike off, as he laid in the road with the bike on top of his leg, made sure he was ok, helped him up and helped get his bike and him to the side of the road, and made sure he'd got a phone to contact us. Another car of teenagers checked to make sure he was ok and did he need any help. So I finished up spending some time with him at A & E - he's been very lucky, he's bashed his face - his teeth have gone into his top lip, so he's got a fat lip, we thought he may have broken 1 of his fingers but it seems like just ligament damage and he's bashed and bruised his knee where he hit the road and his leg was trapped underneath the bike - he's got up this morning, and he says he doesn't feel too bad - Nurse did tell him it's likely that today he would feel like he'd been hit by a bus! He was in a bit of shock yesterday and I think it's been a really big lesson on how the weather conditions can make the roads so nasty. He was only in a queue of traffic and braked to stop behind the car in front and the back wheel just skidded out from underneath him. The roads here are awful at the moment they're not wet but not dry either, so they're greasy and slippy - not nice.

As you can probably tell I'm going to be very pleased to see the back of this week!

Was reasonably productive yesterday got the housework done, and cleared the washing basket, all but 1 load that's now in the WM. Had a session of sorting in DS2's bedroom and took 2 more bags of assorted clothes to the recycling centre, changed our bed too.

Today I will be heading into town, the bank, and food shopping shortly. Have a pile of ironing to do so will need to get stuck in today so it gets done before the weekend.

Hoping to get our car back today.

Tonight I will be sinking a nice bottle of chilled chardonnay.

Thank god it's Friday! Have a good one everyone x

    Need to crack on.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning :hello:

We lost Timmy yesterday  He slowed right down a few days ago so I kept an eye on him. I knew he was dying, but he wasn't ill, just old age. I helped him eat and drink and he was happy enough. Yesterday morning he seemed to be in pain so I was going to take him to the vet, but by the time I got dressed he was relaxed again. I tucked him up in some hay and a blanket, checked on him every half an hour and he died at about 5pm  He's buried next to his mum and dad, under the willow tree in the garden.

We're going shopping this morning then having a lazy afternoon. Our Virgin box playing up so they're replacing it tomorrow, there's a few recorded programs we haven't watched yet. Hopefully we'll manage to watch them all before the box is taken away :D Off out for a drink tonight. I'm not in the mood tbh, but it was arranged a couple of weeks ago and we don't see these friends often so although I don't want to go, I don't want to cancel either.

The material stash is sorted. I found my curtains :D They're 8" too short for the bedroom window :( I'll cut them down and use them in the bathroom instead.

Sounds like DS has taken quite a tumble but will have learned a valuable lesson. The roads are deceptive at this time of year, aren't they?

I'm guessing Timmy's a rabbit? So sad when one of our little companions dies but it sounds like he had a wonderful end to his life and will now be content with his mum and dad.

    I have:

    * Started sorting out the two freezers (the new one's more than cold enough to start putting frozen stuff in it - I won't be using it to do the actual freezing-from-chilled part of the operation.
    * Put on DW.
    * Checked the laundry's up to date.
    * Roasted veg and put it in the SC to make stock.

I'm running on caffeine and sugar (Miss Tilley's fudge, anyone?) and know I will pay for it later but the alternative was spending the morning in bed and I *must* get to the hospital appt this morning as it's important and on a 'use it or lose it' basis.

I daren't sit for long as I'll get tired again so I shall go outside and get the plants out from under their fleeces and then start scanning each room for little jobs that will keep me moving without requiring much in the way of brain power.

  • Morning,

Daisy lost weight again at her midwife check :(

After seeing BF support councilor and being told by her and the Midwives and the HV that every sign of problems they look for are not there, there is absolutely nothing that can be done, no one can work out why she's not gaining. So as of yesterday afternoon she's on formula, and we hope by tomorrow (when we have an appt at the hospital) she'll have gained some weight!

    So a little worried :(

On the plus side, we're going to the Chinese for lunch (DS has teacher training day) it's for his end of year report card (which was great) but I'm not allowed Chinese food, but as I'm not pregnant I can make an exception. So we waited for Daisy to be born before going...

Tonight the Christmas Lights are going on in the village, and Derek Moran from Milkshake is turning on the lights! DD1 is going to love it :)

Hope everyone has a great day x
