Argh no!just had a speeding letter through the post, didn't even see the blooming camera. Had to fill out a form for now but looks like the £60 towards my car tax is going on it!

Wow I want to know how that kid got so many coupons. Last year I tried to do couponing after watching Extreme Couponing on TV (a US show). I never managed to get save much as most coupons were for expensive brands so it never worked out cheaper than buying own brand products :(

My best coupons were when a store had a certain discount e.g. Pesto reduced from £2.50 to £1.25, and I had a coupon that was redeemable at the same time e.g. 50% off, so got pesto for 62p (I bought 20 jars as I have it in sandwiches/with pasta.

Anyone else tried and succeeded with couponing? It also used to take me at least an hour a day hunting for coupons and I'd have to visit at least 3 supermarkets a week to redeem them on the right days.

Today was SFD number 10 :) and took lunch to work :) I've now finished work for Christmas :) just have two half days temping to do next week to earn more pennies to help pay off the ccard.

Very excited that you have snow NSK!

My The Skinny Rules book arrived today so I'm going to read up this week and start it properly on 27th I think!

  • Hello!

Feels like forever since I've posted and, eeks, it has all been a bit spendy round here. Christmas, birthdays, postage, pets getting very sick and needing the vet, running out of food, getting caught in a torrential downpour and giving in and ordering pizza because I was cold and wet and grumpy, my sofa range being discontinued so the footstool I've been waiting "until I had more money" was reduced to clear and needed (yes, needed!) to be bought now or never...

I'm still not organised for Christmas. Feeling very frustrated because the only ideas I have for people are out of my price range (so I won't buy them) but feeling like buying anything else is just buying tat for the sake of buying something. As I'm not doing anything special for the actual day either, the whole topic is just a bit depressing - the stress it brings really doesn't seem worth it. I'm a right Scrooge, me!

Anyway, off to get caught up on all of the posts that I've missed!

  • Evening everyone!

Kat - it sounds amazing where you are!!! I want to be in your snow globe too - with a roaring open fire, and uhmmm breakfast at 08:00 sharp... uhm - well maybe not that bit ha ha!

    Drum roll please...

    :xmastree:Today = SFD number 15 :xmastree:

I actually made it for once... I know it was a lesser challenge but hey! I still have that £5 left in my budget... and I know that should see me through to the END of the month... and if I was organised and everything i would last another 11 days... HOWEVER... pay day is tomorrow and I have budgeted a 6 week month from tomorrow to the end of Jan...

<i will wait for judgement to be passed from on high haha!!!>

    :D

Re 'the conversation' with the guy i've been seeing... I've introduced SFDs to him... indeed - i turned down today because I said I was on a SFD... and he knows I do a budget and he now has one for 2014!!! I will keep chipping away!

    :)

  • Evening Hobbitses...

Fyggy you are awfully brave to be venturing so close to the water on the Giants Causeway in this weather unless things are calmer up there.. it's like a proper Norn Iron Christmas down here... SNOW STORM!!!

I had a nap today - most amazing nap ever...

However I am very sad about our little pooch.. he is going to be 15 years old on Boxing Day and I remember the day he was born - in a storm with 5 brothers and sisters to a Springer Spaniel mother and he came out all black... he is now barely able to walk, is going blind and struggles to stand...

He has been in front of the log fire with us since early morning but needs to be walked to avoid accidents in the house.. he just can't get back in properly so half way home from a short dander ( Northern Irish for a "walk" ) I had to pick him up... and you just never know how heavy a Labradinger is until you have to pick him up....

It's heartbreaking but we are not sure there is any quality of life for him so we are considering putting him to sleep but I don't want to unless we get him checked out and the vet says there is no other choice....;- ((

Clippy_Girl - what a nice surprise before Christmas.. remind me what it's for though..:o

MrsGSR - Oh no!!! What a horrid surprise... I guess the only consolation is that it's money and not points... SO sorry you have to deal with this...

Fmess I am wondering where he got the coupons for as well. I guess if you are careful and pair it with offers in the supermarket you could manage it.. my friend matched coupons with an instore promottion and got 6 boxes of chocolate matchsticks free.. thats my kind of promotion...but like LoveaDove says it's up to us the little people to look after each other.. I am hitting the food banks tomorrow as I said..

Jack Monroe is all over this but yes it was on the Mirror front page that Iain Duncan Smith sneaked out while the debate about food occurred - I have never personally been interested in politics until this year but right now I am fuming and not sure where I should direct my anger... but we can start here....by donating as we are doing.. perhaps a new thread is needed.. not sure....

Something to read about the laughing Tories... http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/tom-watson-never-forgive-tories-2943770

I am off to read more... check in soon...

  • Abundant that is SO cool that you have introduced SFD's... I am super proud and that you have planned for January already! AND 15 SFD's... aww I am glowing with pride here!!!

Wow, I didn’t check the board for a day and it’s gone mad! :rotfl:

Firstly, well done everyone on each and every NSD and penny paid off debts/spent within budget! I’m not doing quite so well at the moment but I’m doing a lot better than I would be without the challenge to help keep me if not on the wagon, then at least in its vicinity! But the car has had (hopefully) its final tank of diesel for the month, and tomorrow is looking like a potential NSD. :)

NSK- I’m very excited by the idea of purple flaming orange peels, I shall have to buy one at the weekend to have a play!! Also thank you for your kind words, after a chat and the creation of a giant spreadsheet (of course!) we’ve decided to combine credit card debt (unofficially). Our potential joint DFD is now February 2016, which isn’t *that* far off my original April 2015 and isn’t accounting for extra bits and bobs paid off when I get extra work, so now of course we are both aiming for April 2015! We can hope…. :D
Also, I hope that if you take a trip to the vets it provides some hope and perhaps some palliative care so you can all have a nice Christmas with your Labradinger.

Shyspender- I had no idea so much work went into turkeys!!

MrsGSR- truffles! That’s what I can do with my spare bit of Christmas cake (if I don’t eat it first…) and boo hiss speeding fines, they’re sneaky! Though it could be worse, I’m told in some parts of the USA they have speeding PLANES that spot you then send police cars to get you!
