I have an old Samsung mobile, PAYGO Tesco.

OH has been asking me what I want for Xmas, and I have decided on a new smart phone and contract

I am not into technology much at all, all I want is:
Fairly good camera
I send less than 200 text a month
would only use 40 mins a month if that
use a few apps-maybe

We live in country, in very, very rural area.

Any recommendations on the phone to buy? I was looking at buying a new phone (would I need to buy unlocked? Or doesn't that matter much because I could get it unlocked cheap enough?)

Then a sim only contact, for less than £10 per month?

What is OVIVO?

Thank you for any replies, please remember I am techno phobic, but would like to come into the 21st century!!!!:)

It will cover your artime requirements virtually for free (one-off cost £20). It works on Vodafone - check the coverage in your rural area.

For the handset you need to decide on the amount you want to spend.
Prices start from about £70 and go over £500. 5Mp camera is pretty much a norm except the cheapest phones below the above price mark.

    Hi
    Thank you for the reply.

Vodafone used to be the best here, but it's gone down hill badly. My OH has Vodafone work phone and any single is bad now.

Will have to research that side of things, I believe Orange may be the best now.

I am looking to spend £70-£100, any recommendations for aging adult simple smart phone?

If you can stretch to an extra £20 you wont get much better than the Moto G from Motorola.

    £120 from phones4u

Tesco was selling it for £99 at launch, but it's oos online, I'd say they are probably likely to get more in the run up to xmas

There are three dominating OSs for smartphones: iOs, Android and Windows Mobile.
Unless you specifically want Windows Mobile, Motorola Moto G 8GB £99 at Tesco (Android) is believed to be the best smartphone in this price range. In fact this is much more than any 'aging adult' needs that has never had a smartphone before.

For EE signal it's worth checking Virgin Mobile sim-only tariffs that are likely to be cheaper than Ornage/T-mobile.

With a bit of patience the very same phone can be had from Tesco for £89 delivered plus £2 to unlock it.

great minds and all that, was editing my post to add similar whilst you replied :p

But the £120 seems to be the best price if the op wants one now.

I'm actually holding out to snap one up myself

    Great!

    Thank you!

I'm not desperate at all, I've registered for stock alerts. I'll have to open a new Tesco account to use the discount code. I did have a few accounts, mine, OH, 2 daughters (don't live here!) cat & dog.
But I had my account scammed and vouchers used by someone, when I contacted CS, they merged all my accounts!!

    Quidco though as well!

I'm on Tesco now, coverage isn't bad here, apart from where I work one day a week. But then it's good no one can get hold of me that day! So might go for the £6/£7 sim only Tesco contract.

I'm excited coming into the 21st centaury now!!!!

But meanwhile the battered 4 year old Samsung will do!

Thank you so much everyone. I am clueless, and OH has an iphone he loves (his works) so he is no help unless I want one of them-but I know the spend would be a complete waste on me!

Hope they have more in stock before price goes up!

Orange do a SIM only 12 month contract for £8 per month, if that's any use?

    Great, thank you.

£20 back on Quidco for £8 sim only, so it makes the monthly amount £6.33 -fantastic!

    Just need the phone now!
