Okay... it's the Kangaroo Card. I'm moving to a Trent Barton monthly pass -private company so different thing completely.0

Why does OP have to wait until AFTER the next payment? The previous DD payment covered the current usage allowance (or so I deduce) so the DD cancellation should be able to be done now, surely?0

Then cancel the card via email and cancel the direct debit (after they take the next payment) - https://www.nctx.co.uk/customer-services/information-centre/direct-debit-faqs/0

No, not if I was still working for them. Is this the same? I want to cancel payment for a service I will no longer be using.
It is the same if you dont tell them. Obviously I dont know their procedures exactly but certainly other companies I have worked for renew first and try and take the money second as not to leave you in the lurch without a bus pass or insurance or access to the gym or Sky TV etc.
Unless the T&Cs explicitly state that none payment is a valid method of cancellation then not paying is simply a breach of contract and not a valid method of cancelling a service.Pretty sure there wasn't a contract. Just an application form. As I said, the ts and cs online have no mention of cancellations whatsoever.
I havent seen the form you completed but I'd be very surprised if there werent any details on their about how the scheme works and how to withdraw from it. If there weren't I think a lot of people wouldnt be happy blindly handing over their bank details.
If you havent retained what you agreed to then it makes it a little more difficult to argue you've complied with the conditions simply by writing as it may well have stated you needed to complete a form and give 10 days notice.0
