OS Daily Thursday 28th November

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good morning everyone :)

Sore throat, runny nose and headache and no motivation to do anything .... but need to get to work. I can see a serious self pity party coming on so need to snap out of it :o

I always believe hot spices are good for colds and germs so am going to get prawns out of the freezer and make a blazingly hot curry tonight.

GDD keeps adding items to her Christmas list and her penniless student mum has given in and said she will get her an iPAD mini, amongst a host of other things. I am not impressed but hey ho, it's not my problem.

Better get going but will try and catch up later.

Well wishes to all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well, warm and safe and have a super day :)

Good morning TTFTM and all who follow

I'm an early bird again this morning so I thought I would check my banking and see how poor we are :). Hubby gets paid tomorrow and it's been a looooong month :D. I've managed to pay all our bills though and spent quite a lot on the girls' christmas presents so next month should be a lot easier.

Weightwatchers was as I expected. 3lb on but I am not disheartened, in fact I am all fired up to have a good loss next week. I'm going to cut out the snacks and try to eat some fruit instead. My ww leader is going to lend me her yonanas machine as well to see if it is any good for us. Hubby is lactose intolerant and really misses ice cream. I can occasionally get some dairy free stuff from Tescos but it is over £4 for a little tub.

Anyway, I hear the alarm going off upstairs so I must go and put the kettle on for his nibs. Hope everyone manages to have a good day and as always, gentle hugs for all who would like one,
    Cheers m'dears x

Morning TTFM and thanks for the new thread. And morning too to those who come after.

M is coming home from hospital today and my new chest freezer is being delivered this afternoon. I, meantime, am so tired I can barely keep my eyes open and am craving sugar and diet fizzy drinks. I may give in if the 'Terrible Tireds' don't pass soon. (Part of the problem is medication I take rather than fatigue and sugar/caffeine/other carp in diet fizzy drinks helps counteract the side effects.) What I really need is two or three hours more sleep but that ain't going to happen.

I'm feeling unsettled because I don't know at what time things will happen or even in what order! But my jobs today are:

    * Portion and freeze Risotto.
    * Cook Carrot & Thyme Sauce (Slow cooker)
    * Get the dishes caught up.
    * Attend to M&D.
    * Be in for delivery men with freezer.

I'm liking the last on the list best!

Hope everyone has a good, OS, MSE day :)

  • Morning all
Cold out but not frosty so no car to scrape.
Fish fed, hubby & I have a cuppa each, he's on the late shift just for today so he's still in bed, typical, it would be changed the evening I have a shopping delivery due, still I'm sure I'll manage.
Laura, how did Sammy's application go?
LW, is it tomorrow you have a furry visitor, Amber, is it?
Molly, I hope things are easier for you.
BB, you'll recognise DD easier now, mad staffy and a baby bump, she's showing already.
Best get ready for work, we have 2 people off sick & one staff member who has been displace due to work on her office wall is sharing with me & she keeps coughing and spluttering, aarrgh!
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Good Morning everyone dark and drere outside at the moment.
Gardener comes this morning to put my 'garden to bed for the winter '.Just a geberal tidy up before winter sets in properly I think he means.:)
I have lots of wrapping up to do today and a list as long as your arm of to-do jobs that I want to get out of the way.I shall tick them off as I go and hopefully get through them all.Its such a busy time of the year isn't it.I am a great list maker and that way I do feel a little glow when I get everything done.I have a bit of sewing to do for DGS Mikey as he has grown into his brother's chino's but they need a bit turning up at the bottom so that a priority as he wants to wear them tomorrow night when his pal comes to tea.I am taking Mikey and his friend Charlie to see the lights get switched on in our little precinct as its usually quite good fun and the schools have a choir and the local council lays on some street entertainment.
Starting to feel quite Christmassy in the shops but I am glad all my 'present' shopping is done.
My tree goes up on Sunday as it always goes up the day before my eldest DDs birthday.
Right time to get a move on and have my shower and some breakfast, porridge I think as its chilly outside ,I may mix some cinnamon in it just to 'liven' it up a bit
Cheers chums have a great day what ever you are doing and keep wrapped up warmly

Dumpling - I will join you this week xxx

Sorry I have been quiet. I have had such a lot on and a mini meltdown on Sunday / Monday. There seems to be enormous problems with my parents, with finances, with my youngest son's health and my oldest son's relationship. Finally, I had a long day in hospital in London yesterday and it has been confirmed I will need one but maybe two operations on my brain to fix the problem that has taken 3 and a half years to diagnose.

In some respects I am positive but it has reminded me of all I have lost - namely my beloved Midwifery which I will never get back.

Anyway today is a day to lick my wounds and recover some strength and be thankful for allI do have - a wonderful husband and four lovely kids and all my kind MSE friends xx I am also reminded that I have not lost someone and know that would be so much worse so really do count my blessings xx

Going to get the Christmas Decs out soon - yes it is early but I need cheering up.

Hester - hope you feel better today and don't be afraid to go odd sick again if you need to. We were out your way on saturday collecting my middle son's xbox for his birthday and thought of you xxx

Sorry i have missed anyone but my thoughts are always with you x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    Morning All

HH - Hope your colleague doesn't spread those germs.
TTFTM - Hope the curry works!
njl - Sounds like a busy day, remember to take some time for yourself.

Not sure what the weather's doing, it's still dark! Fairly mild as it was yesterday, 11 degrees (can't be bothered to look for the little symbol thingy). Washing up to date, DW emptied and house in its usual tip, DD and I had to open boxes to get wrapping paper, etc to do the pressies so they are in the middle of the living room.

No OS today I'm afraid. After work I will come home for a quick spit and polish, get changed and meet friends on the train to Glasgow for a shopping extravaganza - what that really means for us is free fizzy drinks and nibbles!! We will go for a wander around the shops and have a table booked for a meal (with a voucher for 30% off!). Really looking forward to it, it may take my mind off this stupid house business.

Hope you all have a good day, take care. XX
  • Morning,

I've not been around much, DH is off work but we just haven't stopped since Friday!! Daisy went to church for the first time on Sunday, and everyone just loved her :)

We've been really good food wise, after the first 3 days home being a bit manic, we have only had home cooked food since! Granted I delayed a few larger meals, but we always had something simple instead of a takeaway.

Today I need to make more bread, I've not stopped snacking on toast since Daisy was born! I have the midwife (Daisy is struggling with her weight a bit so she's not been discharged yet)! And I have a friend coming over this afternoon, but thank goodness it's not for more then an hour, her 2 year old is very active and loud and misbehaves :/

Dinner tonight is LO chilli with either jacket potatoes or wedges.

Financially I'm about to be poor again, our bed just broke but is finally unfixable (we're putting the mattress on the floor today, as I'm now worried we'll end up there before long if we keep using the bed) and my microwave oven just gave up completely. I'm thinking of just buying a normal microwave and seeing if I can make do without the oven part (which I actually use... But it's 6 times the cost)!

So being the positive person I am... I'm wondering what the third thing to go will be and how much that will cost us!!

Hope everyone has a great day x

    Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Just now getting light, looks cloudy and overcast.

DH up and getting ready for work, normal time start.

Dinner last night was roast chicken, chips/jacket potato, and beans. Not sure what we're having for dinner tonight, but is likely to be a clear up type meal, so egg, bacon, mushrooms etc - there's also LO mash, LO gammon, a few hash browns - so will get those bits cleared up.

Yesterday was not a good day - DH got up to go to work and went out to our car, and some nasty theiving s*****g had stolen the catalytic converter from our car - so car now at the garage, Police informed - surprisingly they have already visited, spoken to neighbours etc, my next door neighbour's daughters' boyfriends car was damaged the same night - so just seems a bit of a coincidence. Police did then visit late last night in a big van and were wandering around in the dark, (I only knew because I went upstairs to use the bathroom and could see what looked like brake lights shining so went to back bedroom window to have a proper look and they had parked their vehicle and were checking round parked cars etc with torches on foot in the dark. They have put some kind of ticket/letter on a vehicle (parked on the roadside not private driveway) where the resident who parked it there seems to running a business from his residential address - all authorities are aware as my neighbour has told me they have informed them but it's 1 of those grey areas!) Have registered the claim with the insurance company and we're not going to bother putting the claim through the insurance as the excess is so much we may as well not bother and just pay the bill - hopefully we can get the car back today. We're looking into getting another outside light put up, but not sure if that's going to be possible as the area we need to cover is the driveway and in front of the garage and the garage is detached from the house. It's something we'll be looking into over the next few days.

Have the normal list of chores etc to do today - so will be cracking on with those - want to try to keep on top of everything as once it gets closer to xmas it seems to go a bit mad and busy. Still have some xmas gifts etc to sort too.

    Need to crack on.

    Keep safe and well x
