Will RoUK really give up some of its financial freedom to the independant Scots?

Agreed.
In fact, despite the rhetoric you hear from politicians, many of us will happily continue to work North and South of the border.
Real life....as compared to the political life.0 -
Did Sebastian Coe actually use the words "stupid"?
EDIT: I've been on the Question Time BBC site which lists the panellists for that week and can't find Seb Coe on for the following episodes:
21st Nov, 14th Nov, 7th Nov, 31st Oct, 24th Oct, 17th Oct, 10th Oct, 3rd Oct, 26th Sept.
When did he appear?
He may or may not have used the word "stupid" if we using semantics. My point was that we can't make out the scots are stupid to vote for independance, which is certainly how things come across. Westminster seem to lean heavily on the (maybe misguded) view that Scotland will do whats "right" and stay within the UK.
As for whether it was Sebastian Coe, apolgies, it was Jeremy Hunt.0 -
Isn't this whole debate leading to the conclusion that Devo Max is by far the best option for Scotland? It gives them the powers they'd want, with none of the risk.
I'd like to see a Federal UK.0 -
I wonder how that work will be taxed?
Presumably on a similar basis to which cross-border trade is dealt with as regards NI and the ROI.
There's a whole website devoted to it.

I'd suggest calling someone is 'stupid voting for independence' is a world away from saying someone is ''misguided (or whatever he really said) voting for independence'. Shame we don't have the actual word used to decide whether it was indeed inflammatory.
Westminster are trying to keep apart from the debate, allowing the Scottish members of the 'no' campaign to debate with the Scottish members of the 'yes' campaign. Which seems to be exactly what you're advising they should do?0 -

Another one, from another politician...His boast on Twitter that Scottish independence would mean that "we wouldn't have to help pay for Scotland via Barnett formula" follow Alistair Carmichael's refusal yesterday to rule out future changes to the Barnett formula in the event of a No vote. Meanwhile, Mr Johnson suggested in a newspaper that those supporting independence were 'stupid' and that the idea was 'lunacy'.0 -

Oh dear!
If you choose to get the latest news from the SNP themselves, then that's how they spin it.
Why don't you read Boris's actual full article.

The words "stupid" and "lunacy" do appear, but if you read the whole thing, it is quite a reasonable piece of writing and not offensive to anyone. It's just anti independence. Nothing wrong with that.0 -

I dare say there will be heated words on both sides and so appreciate your point on this whole thing getting 'nasty'. I can't see any way around it, especially as it would be in the SNP's interest for it to become a slanging match of 'England vs Scotland'. Alex Salmond must have been mortified when the Leader of the WELSH assembly said he was opposed to an independent Scotland having a voice in the Bank of England.
I think it's unrealistic to expect the RoUK not to get involved in the debate, seeing as everyone in the UK will be impacted by Scotland leaving the Union. I agree that it is better to keep the language of the debate reasonable.0
