On going vandalism of both our cars, how many excess will I have to pay for each car?

Hi,

Mine and my husband cars have been vandalised 3 times in the past couple of weeks. The first time both sides of each car had been keyed several times. Last Thursday night the tyres had been punctured, 2 on my car and 4 on my husbands. Last night the rear windscreen had been smashed on my husbands car. I'm pretty sure I know who it is (we had to take out an anti harrassment order against them a couple of years ago) I informed the police of each incident when they happened and have told them who I think it is. I have 3 seperate crime numbers 1 for each incident. The police are going to install a cctv camera but said there is not alot they can do without evidence.

I'm wondering if it's worth claiming on the insurance or not as we have a £200 excess. Would I have to pay this 3 times as it's 3 seperate incidents and what happens if it gets vandalised again?

Hope someone can help.

Tracy.

I'm pretty sure they'll class it as three separate incidents and charge 3x excess. Its pants but thats how it works I believe

Even if you are not making a claim you should be informing them anyway.

  • I'd keep very quiet and not claim, otherwise you'll be back on here with a new threat that you can't get car insurance due to the high number of claims you've had and that you're a high risk... or that your insurance is thousands.

Insurance policies do say that you need to tell them but i'm pretty sure it says for accidents

I thought it said incidents rather than accidents, could be wrong as I've not got my policy to hand.

You will find it says accidents or losses.

They will certainly wish to increase your premium, or even remove the vandalism/malicious damage coverage if they find out there is someone with a vendetta against you.

Insurance is against what is very very unlikely to happen, no-one will insure against what is likely to happen
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

I would suggest that you have to look after your own interests in this world.

Should scumbags be allowed to dictate your finances (or lack of them) and I just don't mean the insurance companies!

If you're referring to me you'll have to work my comments out yourself.

The upshot of `incidents' has already been posted by another poster.

you would be bonkers to disclose this to insurance. You might as well hand back your license to the DVLA and take taxis everywhere than disclose 3 incidents of vandalism because it mihgt be cheaper to use taxis than pay insurance.

Caveat Emptor, you have to declare all these incidences to your insurer.
