I've always just put reminders in a calendar for thins like service etc. Surely it's quite an easy thing to do

Plus as it happens I do know when stuff is due anyway. Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
I commend you to take more notice and remember these things. You are likely to bring unwanted attention on yourself if stopped for any sort of police check and you don't know the index number when asked.
Most people wouldn't know their own car's index number. This was a thing we used to try and employ when checking vehicles at roadblocks in Northern Ireland. It was a waste of time.
As for a Road Fund Licence reminder. I'm glad of them and delighted that the DVLNI sends them out. A little memory jolt.
I never wash my own car so I never take any heed of the tax disc.0 -
Ordered mine on Thurs or Friday. Even though the webpage gave an error and said it failed but i could still tax it at the post office.
It arrived today.
Seems to be happening a lot lately. Buying stuff online and the page failing. Yet they still take the money.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

It's one of my pet hates to have a car which doesn't get taxed at the same time as it gets MOT'd. Mind you I don't drive used cars anymore so I no longer have the issue but when I did it used to annoy me.
Did you know that over here (NI) we can't get our cars MOT'd in garages? We have to take them to a government testing centre.0 -

Really? I don't know anyone who doesn't know their car's VRN.
Obviously there are *some* people who don't, but most? I would be concerned if that were the case.
I can remember nearly every single one of the numbers for the cars I've owned.0 -

I doubt the use of the word 'most' but I would think that 'many' would be correct.0 -
Look in the bottom left hand corner of the windscreen when you are cleaning it, there is a reminder there

What is this "cleaning it" that you refer to?
Is it something that "proper drivers" do?

We've had this debate before.
I can remember the VRN of the first car that I owned from 1978, and the numbers of my fathers cars from the 60s, as I've got older the numbers just won't stick anymore . I have a vague recollection, but could only get one of ours off the top of my head, and that is an unusual number, so it has stuck.
I am extremely proud that after only 5 years I can recall my mobile phone number (8 times out of 10, sometimes I double the wrong number at the start)I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
